Cecily Brownstone
Cecily Brownstone (18 April 1909 – 30 August 2005), was a food writer, who wrote several cookbooks and articles about food over a period of 39 years. Canadian-born, Brownstone was the Associated Press Food Editor from 1947 to 1986—for thirty-nine years. During that time she was the most widely published of syndicated food writers. The five recipe columns and two food features she wrote for the Associated Press each week appeared in papers all over the United States, in addition to a number of other countries. Brownstone's personal papers and cookbook collection is the unique expression of her personal interest in and encyclopedic knowledge of American culinary history and cookbooks, and her career in the food field. Doreen Brownstone
Doreen Brownstone OM ( Stein; 28 September 1922 – 16 December 2022) was a British-born Canadian actress, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Biography Brownstone was born on 28 September 1922, and was a mainstay of the Winnipeg theatre and television scene. In 1941, she quit her job to join the Royal Air Force during WWII, where she started acting after an official asked her to be in a play. She moved to Winnipeg as a war bride in 1946, and, in 1958, starred opposite Gordon Pinsent in the very first production at the very first regional theatre in North America (Hatful of Rain at Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, directed by John Hirsch). As head of Television at CBC, Hirsch also cast Brownstone regularly in the popular soap opera ''House of Pride''. In 2013, Brownstone received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Winnipeg Arts Council. In 2017, she was appointed a Member of the Order of Manitoba (OM). Harvey Brownstone (born July 24, 1956) is a retired judge of the Ontario Court of Justice and the first openly gay judge in Canada. He is also a bestselling author and host of a television and internet talk show. Early life and education Brownstone was born on July 24, 1956, in Paris, France, and was raised in Hamilton, Ontario. His father, Sam Brownstone, was the director of the Hamilton Jewish Community Centre for many years, and his mother, Odette Brownstone, owned "Odette de Paris", a highly successful French ladies' wear business. He attended Adelaide Hoodless Elementary School and Scott Park Secondary School and received his LL.B. degree from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario in 1980 and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1983 after articling with criminal lawyers Leo Adler and William A.
