Geography Located in the northeastern corner of the county, it borders the following townships: * Starr Township, Hocking County: north * York Township, Athens County: northeast corner * Waterloo Township, Athens County: east * Knox Township: southeast * Madison Township: south * Vinton Township: southwest corner * Swan Township: west * Washington Township, Hocking County: northwest No municipalities are located in Brown Township, although the unincorporated communities of Ingham, Moonville, and New Plymouth lie in the township's southeast, southeast, and northwest respectively. Moonville, Ohio
Moonville is a ghost town in southeastern Brown Township, Vinton County, Ohio, United States. Little remains of this former mining community except a few foundations, a cemetery, and an abandoned railroad tunnel which is the subject of numerous ghost stories. History In the mid-1800s, the Marietta and Cincinnati Railroad (M&C) was pushing through southeastern Ohio to reach Cincinnati. Along its route and in the more remote sections were the towns of Zaleski, Hope Furnace, Hope Furnace Station, Ingham Station, and Kings Station. Central to these small coal mining towns was also a small community mainly made up of two families, the Coes and Fergusons. It was called Moonville. Nearby, the railroad company built two trestles over the winding Raccoon Creek and gouged a tunnel, called Moonville Tunnel, through one high hill. Ingham, Ohio
Ingham (also known as Ingham Station or Ingham's Station) is a ghost town in southeastern Brown Township, Vinton County, Ohio and western Waterloo Township, Athens County, Ohio, United States. The town is located east of the more well known ghost town of Moonville in Vinton County and west of Mineral and King’s Station in Athens County Ingham had its start when the railroad was extended to the mines at that point. William N. Jaynes was postmaster from March 25, 1903, until mail was discontinued on April 30, 1904, when it was sent to the Mineral post office. The town was abandoned when the mines shut down in the early 1900s.
