Brothers (1977 Film)
''Brothers'' is a 1977 American drama film directed by Arthur Barron and produced by Edward Lewis and Mildred Lewis. It stars Bernie Casey, Vonetta McGee, Ron O'Neal, John Lehne, Stu Gilliam, Renny Roker, Owen Pace, Dwan Smith and Martin St. Judge in the lead roles. The film parallels the real life stories of Black radicals Angela Davis, George Jackson, and Jonathan Jackson. This film's music is composed by Taj Mahal. Plot summary The film begins with the events surrounding the arrest and conviction of David Thomas on trumped up charges of armed robbery. He is sentenced to " one year to life" in prison. He is soon sent to Mendocino Prison, a facility described as "our number one concentration camp for Black" by David's brother, Josh. Edward Lewis (producer)
Edward Lewis (December 16, 1919 – July 27, 2019) was an American film producer and writer. As producer, he worked on nine films in partnership with actor Kirk Douglas; from 1958 to 1966, Lewis was Vice-President of Kirk Douglas film production company, Bryna Productions, as well as its subsidiaries, Brynaprod, Joel Productions and Douglas and Lewis Productions. He also produced nine films directed by John Frankenheimer. Lewis also wrote several books. Biography Lewis was born in Camden, New Jersey to Max Klein and Florence (Klein) Lewis. Before graduating, Lewis went to Bucknell University, and then to dental school. Before graduating, he served in the United States Army in England as a Captain, at a military hospital. John Zaremba (October 22, 1908 – December 15, 1986) was an American actor most noted for supporting roles on science fiction films and television series. The Chicago-born Zaremba was a journalist for the ''Grand Rapids Press'' and ''Chicago Tribune'' newspapers until 1949, when he moved to Hollywood and became an actor. Alphonso Williams (20 July 1962 – 10 October 2019) was an American soul singer, active in Germany. He won the fourteenth season of ''Deutschland sucht den Superstar''. The Soledad Brothers were three inmates charged with the murder of a prison guard, John Vincent Mills, at California's Soledad Prison on January 16, 1970. George Jackson, Fleeta Drumgo, and John Clutchette were alleged to have murdered Mills in retaliation for the shooting deaths of three black prisoners during a prison fight in the exercise yard three days prior by another guard, Opie G.
