Brotherhood Of Steel Outcasts
The Brotherhood of Steel is a fictional organization from the post-apocalyptic ''Fallout'' video game franchise. The Brotherhood collects and preserves technology, but they are not known for sharing their knowledge, even if doing so would improve the quality of life among the people of the wasteland. The Brotherhood faction has been present in every ''Fallout'' game to date. Structure Due to the fragmented nature of the Brotherhood, existing in multiple Expeditionary Forces (known as "Chapters"), a set structure is hard to follow. All Chapters follow a chain of command known as "The Chain That Binds", with four ranks used universally by all. These are, in ascending importance, Initiate, Knight, Paladin, and Elder. All Chapters stem from the original Western Brotherhood seen in ''Fallout: A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game'', and usually take on names relating to their location, such as the Appalachian Brotherhood (''Fallout 76''), Mojave Chapter ('' Fallout: New Vegas''), and ... Fallout (series)
''Fallout'' is a series of post-apocalyptic role-playing video games—and later action role-playing games—created by Interplay Entertainment. The series is set during the 21st, 22nd and 23rd centuries, and its atompunk retrofuturistic setting and art work are influenced by the post-war culture of 1950s United States, with its combination of hope for the promises of technology and the lurking fear of nuclear annihilation. A forerunner of ''Fallout'' is ''Wasteland'', a 1988 game developed by Interplay Productions to which the series is regarded as a spiritual successor. The series' first title, ''Fallout'', was developed by Black Isle Studios and released in 1997, and its sequel, ''Fallout 2,'' the following year. With the tactical role-playing game '' Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel'', development was handed to Micro Forté and 14 Degrees East. In 2004, Interplay closed Black Isle Studios, and continued to produce '' Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel'', an action game wi ... Gamma World
''Gamma World'' is a science fantasy role-playing game, originally designed by James M. Ward and Gary Jaquet, and first published by TSR in 1978. It borrowed heavily from Ward's earlier game, ''Metamorphosis Alpha''. Setting ''Gamma World'' takes place in the mid-25th century, more than a century after a second nuclear war had destroyed human civilization. The war that destroyed civilization in ''Gamma World'' is only vaguely described in most editions of the game, and what details are provided change from version to version: * The first two editions explained that ever-increasing material prosperity and leisure had led to ever-more radical and violent social movements, culminating in a final war in the years AD 2309–2322, and ascribe the final annihilation to a terrorist group called "The Apocalypse" and the ensuing retaliation by surviving factions. Later versions altered the reason for the collapse. * The 2000 Alternity version is due to alien arrival and nuclear response ... Space Marine
The space marine, an archetype of military science fiction, is a kind of soldier who operates in outer space or on alien worlds. Historical marines fulfill multiple roles: ship defence, boarding actions, landing parties, and general-purpose high-mobility land deployments that operate within a fixed distance of shore or ship. By analogy, hypothetical space marines would defend allied spaceships, board enemy ships, land on planets and moons, and satisfy rapid-deployment needs throughout space. History The earliest known use of the term "space marine" was by Bob Olsen in his short story "Captain Brink of the Space Marines" (''Amazing Stories'', Volume 7, Number 8, November 1932), a light-hearted work whose title is a play on the song " Captain Jinks of the Horse Marines", and in which the protagonists were marines of the "Earth Republic Space Navy" on mission to rescue celebrity twins from aliens on Titan. Olsen published a novella sequel four years later, "The Space Marines a ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Retcon
Retroactive continuity, or retcon for short, is a literary device in which established diegetic facts in the plot of a fictional work (those established through the narrative itself) are adjusted, ignored, supplemented, or contradicted by a subsequently published work which recontextualizes or breaks continuity with the former. There are various motivations for applying retroactive continuity, including: * To accommodate desired aspects of sequels or derivative works which would otherwise be ruled out. * To respond to negative fan reception of previous stories. * To correct and overcome errors or problems identified in the prior work since its publication. * To change or clarify how the prior work should be interpreted. * To match reality, when assumptions or projections of the future are later proven wrong. Retcons are used by authors to increase their creative freedom, on the assumption that the changes are unimportant to the audience compared to the new story which can be tol ... Super Mutant
Super Mutants are a fictional race of posthuman beings from the post-apocalyptic ''Fallout'' video game franchise. Within series lore, Super Mutants are originally ordinary human beings that have been mutated to be much larger and stronger as a result of exposure to a genetically engineered viral mutagen. The Super Mutants of the ''Fallout'' series tend to be depicted as savage and innately violent beings who, as a result of their transformations, lost a substantial amount of intelligence and often have cannibalistic tendencies. While Super Mutants tend to form their own factions or societies and are usually hostile to civilized humans, some have chosen to live peacefully alongside humans in settlements across the post-apocalyptic wasteland. Among the most recognizable and integral elements of the ''Fallout'' intellectual property (IP), Super Mutants have appeared in every media of the franchise, and have been the subject of numerous fan mods of ''Fallout'' series games.
