Brothas Doobie
''Brothas Doobie'' is the second studio album by Los Angeles-based hip hop group Funkdoobiest. It was released on July 4, 1995 via Epic Records. This was the final album featuring back-up MC and hypeman Tomahawk Funk, who left the group after this release. The album contains the famous and controversial track "Superhoes", which also appeared in the soundtrack to the film ''Friday'', starring N.W.A's Ice Cube. The album has been falsely shown with a blue cover, several times. It has a green color instead. An edited version of the album, which removed most of its explicit language and sexual content, was also released. It completely censored the track "Superhoes", due to references to masturbation and rape, and the track "Pussy Ain't Shit" due to its main graphic theme: the female reproductive organs. Funkdoobiest
Funkdoobiest was an American hip hop group from Los Angeles, California, United States, composed of rappers Jason "Son Doobie" Vasquez, Tyrone "Tomahawk Funk" Pacheco and DJ Ralph "Tha Phunky Mexican" Medrano. They are members of the Soul Assassins collective. The group has released four studio albums. Their third LP, ''The Troubleshooters'', was recorded and released without any participation of Tomahawk Funk due to his departure from the group. The group's most successful hit single, "Bow Wow Wow" from their debut album ''Which Doobie U B?'', peaked at number 89 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 singles chart in the United States. They appeared in the soundtrack to Allison Anders' 1994 film ''Mi Vida Loca'' with the song "The Good Hit". ''Friday'' is a 1995 American buddy stoner comedy film directed by F. Gary Gray and written by Ice Cube and DJ Pooh. The first installment in the ''Friday'' trilogy, the film stars Ice Cube, Chris Tucker, Nia Long, Bernie Mac, Tiny "Zeus" Lister Jr., John Witherspoon, Regina King, and Anna Maria Horsford. Roy Ayers
Roy Ayers (born September 10, 1940) is an American funk, soul, and jazz composer, vibraphone player, and music producer. Ayers began his career as a post-bop jazz artist, releasing several albums with Atlantic Records, before his tenure at Polydor Records beginning in the 1970s, during which he helped pioneer jazz-funk. He is a key figure in the acid jazz movement, and has been dubbed "The Godfather of Neo Soul". He is best known for his compositions "Everybody Loves the Sunshine", "Searchin", and "Running Away". The Average White Band (also known as AWB) are a Scottish funk and R&B band that had a series of soul and disco hits between 1974 and 1980. They are best known for their million-selling instrumental track " Pick Up the Pieces", and their albums '' AWB'' and '' Cut the Cake''. The band name was initially proposed by Bonnie Bramlett. Grover Washington Jr. (December 12, 1943 – December 17, 1999) was an American jazz-funk and soul-jazz saxophonist. Along with Wes Montgomery and George Benson, he is considered by many to be one of the founders of the smooth jazz genre. He wrote some of his material and later became an arranger and producer. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Washington made some of the genre's most memorable hits, including "Mister Magic", "Reed Seed", "Black Frost", "Winelight", "Inner City Blues", "Let it Flow (For 'Dr. J')" and "The Best is Yet to Come". ''Style Wars'' is an American 1983 documentary film on hip hop culture, directed by Tony Silver and produced in collaboration with Henry Chalfant. The film has an emphasis on graffiti, although bboying and rapping are covered to a lesser extent. The film was originally aired on PBS television on January 18, 1984, and was subsequently shown in several film festivals to much acclaim, including the Vancouver Film Festival. It also won the Grand Jury Prize: Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival. The show captures and includes many historical moments of hip hop culture during its earliest days in the 1970s onward towards the early 1980s. WhoSampled is a website and app database of information about sampled music or sample-based music, cover songs and remixes. History Nadav Poraz founded the site in London, England in 2008, as a way to track musical samples and cover songs. Mobile apps were released in 2012 and 2014 for iPhone and Android, respectively. The website's database is user-generated and reviewed by moderators before the content goes live. As of 2022, the site's most sampled track is the Amen break from the Winstons. In 2015, the site added support for film and television clips. The following year, it partnered with Spotify and introduced a six degrees of separation-inspired game that tracks relationships between artists, producers, and their tracks.
