Brookvale Bus Depot is a bus depot in the Sydney suburb of Brookvale operated by Keolis Downer Northern Beaches. History Following the closure of the Manly tram network in 1939, all Northern Beaches buses had been stabled at the increasingly overcrowded former Manly Tram Depot. To alleviate this, a new depot opened on 5 October 1952 on Pittwater Road, Brookvale. As of November 2022, it has an allocation of 230 buses. Pittwater Road is an urban area, urban Main Road in the north-eastern suburbs of Sydney, Australia. Pittwater Road runs from Manly, New South Wales, Manly to Church Point, New South Wales, Church Point, on the southern shore of Pittwater. Brookvale, New South Wales
Brookvale is a suburb of northern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Brookvale is 16 kilometres north-east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of Northern Beaches Council. It is part of the Northern Beaches region. History The first development in the area was in 1836 when 64 hectares of farmland was granted to William Frederick Parker. In this period further land was sold to the Malcolm, Burns and Miles families. In 1883, Sydney Alexander Malcolm built what became known as 'Brookvale House'. Northern Beaches
The Northern Beaches is a region within Northern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia, near the Pacific coast. This area extends south to the entrance of Port Jackson (Sydney Harbour), west to Middle Harbour and north to the entrance of Broken Bay. The area was formerly inhabited by the Garigal or Caregal people in a region known as Guringai country. Manly Tram Depot
Manly Tram Depot was part of the Sydney tram network. History Manly Depot served the isolated Manly lines. It opened in 1903, being rebuilt in 1911 for electric trams. It closed as a tram depot, along with the network on 30 September 1939. The shed continued to be used as a bus depot, and in 1947 the remaining steam tram sheds were demolished, while the electric tram sheds were modified for use as a bus depot and subsequently adapted for commercial use being a car dealership and later retail markets. Design The depot had a steel frame with a saw tooth roof covering five roads with the tramcars having to enter the new shed through the old steam tram sheds, which were timber framed and clad in corrugated iron. Sydney Bus Museum (formerly the Sydney Bus and Truck Museum) is a not-for-profit transportation museum and education centre for public benefit located in the suburb of Leichhardt, in Sydney, Australia. The museum is open to the public on the first and third Sunday of each month. The museum restores, maintains, displays and operates over 70 buses from the 1920s to 2000's. This mainly includes both single-decker and double-decker buses from NSW government operations, but also includes Double-Decker buses from Hong Kong and London as well as single decker buses from NSW private operators. The State Transit Authority of New South Wales, also referred to as State Transit, was an agency of the Government of New South Wales operating bus services in Sydney.
