Brooks McKowen
Brooks McKowen is an American college basketball coach, currently the head coach of the Peacocks at Upper Iowa University. He had a successful career at Wapsie Valley High School in his hometown of Fairbank, Iowa, finishing as the state's all-time scoring leader and winning Iowa Mr. Basketball honors in 2003. McKowen then played basketball at Northern Iowa under Greg McDermott and Ben Jacobson. After his playing days were over, he stayed at Northern Iowa as a graduate assistant, then as a video coordinator. In 2010, he left and spent one season as an assistant coach at Des Moines Area Community College. Afterwards, he spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Southwest Minnesota State University under head coach Brad Bigler. While there, the Mustangs won their first ever Northern Sun men's basketball tournament championship in 2012. Upper Iowa Peacocks
The Upper Iowa Peacocks (also UIU Peacocks) are the athletic teams that represent Upper Iowa University, located in Fayette, Iowa, in intercollegiate sports at the Division II level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), primarily competing in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) for most of their sports since the 2023–24 academic year. The Peacocks previously competed in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) from 2003-04 to 2022-23, and the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC; now currently known as the American Rivers Conference since the 2018–19 academic year) of the NCAA Division III ranks from 1922–23 to 2002–03. Northern Sun Men's Basketball Tournament
The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference men's basketball tournament is the annual men's conference basketball championship tournament for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The tournament has been held annually since 2000. It is a single-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. The winner receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Division II Basketball Championship. Tournament format Between its establishment in 2000 and 2012, the tournament featured only the top 8 teams from the conference, with all eight teams active from the quarterfinal round. After 2013, however, the tournament expanded to 16 teams, with teams seeded based on their performance in either the North or South Division of the Northern Sun. 2017 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2017 NCAA Division II men's basketball tournament involved 64 teams playing in a single-elimination tournament to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division II college basketball. The ''Sioux City Journal'' is the daily newspaper and website of Sioux City, Iowa. Founded in 1864, the publication now covers northwestern Iowa and portions of Nebraska and South Dakota.
