Brooks is thought to have been derived from both the Swedish language, Swedish surname Bäckland, (''bäck'', "brook", "stream") and ''lund'' ("grove"); and in English language, English, Old Irish, Gaelic and Scots language, Scottish from "of the brook". The word ''brook'' derives from the Old English ''broc'' and appears in the Medieval predecessors of Brooks (Ate-Broc and Atte-Broc). The surname arrived in North America from England in the mid-seventeenth century. The surname Brooks is recorded in Ireland from the 1600s. Ahmad Brooks
Ahmad Kadar Brooks (born March 14, 1984) is an American former football outside linebacker. He played college football at Virginia, and was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the third round of the 2006 NFL Supplemental Draft. He has also played for the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers. Early years and personal Brooks attended C. D. Hylton High School in Woodbridge, Virginia, which he helped lead to two VHSL state championships during his freshman and sophomore year (1998 and 1999). Becoming recognized his team was nationally ranked, going 40-0 before losing to Potomac High School of Woodbridge, Virginia, during his junior season in 2000. Alvin Brooks
Alvin Joseph Brooks Jr. (born August 6, 1959) is a basketball coach and head coach of the Lamar University's men's basketball team. Prior to Lamar, he most recently served as associate head coach of the Houston Cougars. Brooks has also served as Director of Basketball Operations for the Kentucky Wildcats. He coached the Houston Cougars from 1993 to 1998. He also served as an assistant coach for the Texas Tech Red Raiders basketball team and was at Texas A&M through the '06–'07 season. Playing career Brooks was an award-winning player in college and high school. Allison Brooks
Allison C. Brooks (June 26, 1917 – December 9, 2006) was a United States Air Force aviator who piloted both the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and North American P-51 Mustang aircraft in combat missions over Nazi Germany during World War II. In the Vietnam War, he flew Lockheed C-130 Hercules aircraft in combat support missions. In addition to earning numerous military decorations, he was ultimately promoted to the rank of major general and served in active duty until 1971. Allan Brooks
Allan Cyril Brooks (February 15, 1869 Etawah – January 3, 1946) was an ornithologist and bird artist who lived in Canada. His father William Edwin Brooks had been a keen ornithologist in India but growing up in a farming household in Canada made his entry into the career of bird art much more difficult than for his contemporary Louis Agassiz Fuertes in the United States of America. His painting style was more impressionist with a greater emphasis on the habitat than on fine details of plumage. After Fuertes' death in a road accident, he was commissioned to complete the plates for ''Birds of Massachusetts''. Life and career Allan was born in Etawah in India, where his father, W. E. Alison Brooks, (born 29 December 1962) is a Canadian-British architect. She is the founder and creative director of Alison Brooks Architects, based in London. Her awards include the RIBA Stirling Prize, Manser Medal, Stephen Lawrence Prize, and RIBA House of the Year. Alexandra Grace Brooks (born 19 January 1995) is an English footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Blackburn Rovers in the FA Women's Championship. Alex Whitmore Brooks (born August 21, 1976) is an American former professional ice hockey defenseman who played, as an undrafted player, 19 games in the National Hockey League for the New Jersey Devils in the 2006–07 season. Playing career Undrafted and out of college from the University of Wisconsin, Brooks took his game to Jokerit of the Finnish First League. The New Jersey Devils, attracted to Brooks' tough defensive play, signed the defenseman to an entry-level contract. Brooks spent four years with the Devils' minor league affiliate, the Albany River Rats. Alden Brooks (1882–1964) was an American writer, chiefly remembered for his proposal that Sir Edward Dyer wrote the works of William Shakespeare. Early life Brooks was in born in 1882 in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended schools in both France and England, before graduating from Harvard University in 1905. Career Brooks taught at Harvard and as an instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy. He subsequently became for a time a tobacco farmer in southern Maryland, until he moved to France.
