Bronte Independent School District
Bronte Independent School District is a public school district based in Bronte, Texas (USA). Located in Coke County, a portion of the district extends into Runnels County. Bronte ISD has two campuses - Bronte High School (Grades 7-12) and Bronte Elementary School (Grades PK-6). In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency. The district provided educational services for the inmates at Coke County Juvenile Justice Center, a juvenile detention center operated by the GEO Group and contracted by the Texas Youth Commission. As of 2007, 21 district employees were based at the center. During that year, Alan Richey, the superintendent of Bronte ISD, estimated that 40% of the enrollment in the school district consisted of children who were incarcerated in the center. Bronte ( ) is a town in Coke County, Texas, United States. The population was 999 at the 2010 census. Texas State Senator Grady Hazlewood, who served from the Amarillo-based District 31 from 1941 to 1971, was born in 1902 in Coke County, near Bronte. Runnels County, Texas
Runnels County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 9,900. Its county seat is Ballinger. The county was created in 1858 and later organized in 1880. It is named for Hiram G. Runnels, a Texas state legislator. History The original inhabitants of the area were the Jumano, followed by the Comanche. In 1683–84, Juan Domínguez de Mendoza established a short-lived mission. The Texas Youth Commission (TYC) was a Texas state agency which operated juvenile corrections facilities in the state. The commission was headquartered in the Brown-Heatly Building in Austin. As of 2007, it was the second largest juvenile corrections agency in the United States, after the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. ''Abilene Reporter-News'' is a daily newspaper based in Abilene, Texas, United States. The newspaper started publishing as the weekly ''Abilene Reporter'', helmed by Charles Edwin Gilbert on June 17, 1881, just three months after Abilene was founded. It is hence the oldest continuous business in the city. It became a daily newspaper in 1885.
