Brodie Smith (goalball Player)
Brodie Smith (born 8 August 1998) is an Australian goalball athlete and is classified as a B3 competitor. She represented Australia at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Personal life Smith was born on 8 August 1998. She has retinitis pigmentosa, a genetic condition that causes a loss of peripheral vision. She attended Maitland's Christian School. In 2021, she was studying secondary education at the University of Newcastle. Goalball Smith is a goalball player. At the 2017 World Youth Championships in Hungary she was the highest scorer in the tournament and captained the Australian team to a historic gold medal. The following year, Smith was included in the Belles' squad for the 2018 World Championships in Sweden. Goalball
Goalball is a team sport designed specifically for athletes with a vision impairment. Participants compete in teams of three, and try to throw a ball that has bells embedded inside of it into the opponents' goal. The ball is thrown by hand and never kicked. Using ear-hand coordination, originating as a rehabilitation exercise, the sport has no able-bodied equivalent. Able-bodied athletes are also blindfolded when playing this sport. Played indoors, usually on a volleyball court, games consist of twelve-minute halves (formerly ten-minute halves) with three-minute half-time. Where there is a tie, golden goal overtime occurs in the form of two three-minute periods (and a second three-minute half-time). If the tie persists, a paired shootout ('extra throws' and 'sudden death extra throws') determines the winner. Jennifer Blow
Jennifer "Jenny" Blow (born 10 January 1991) is an Australian goalball player and is classified as a B3 competitor. Having only started playing the sport in 2009, she has several goalball scholarships. She plays for the New South Wales women's goalball team in the Australian national championships, where she has won three silver medals. As a member of the national team, she has competed in the 2010 World Championships, 2011 IBSA Goalball World Cup and the 2011 African-Oceania regional Paralympic qualifying competition. She represented Australia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, 2016 Summer Paralympics and 2020 Summer Paralympics in goalball. Tyan "Little Girl" Taylor (born 23 March 1990) is an Australian goalball winger and is classified as a B3 competitor. In 2009, after only a month playing the sport, Taylor was named to the New South Wales team. She made the national team in 2011 and has played in the 2010 World Championships, 2011 IBSA Goalball World Cup and 2011 IBSA Africa Oceania Goalball Regional Champions. She represented Australia at the 2016 Summer Paralympics and 2020 Summer Paralympics in goalball. Raissa Martin (born 3 March 1991) is an Australian goalball player who represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics and the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Personal life Martin was born on 3 March 1991 in Hervey Bay, Queensland. She has been legally blind since birth with rod monochromatism. She grew up in Hervey Bay but moved to Brisbane to attend Queensland Institute of Technology where she completed a Bachelor of Business. Amy Ridley (born 10 July 2002) is an Australian goalball athlete. She represented Australia at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Personal life Ridley was born on 10 July 2002. At the age of six she was diagnosed with panuveitis, an autoimmune disease. She attended Turramurra High School. In 2021, she is a full-time student, studying law and business, and working casually as an academic tutor. Her father is Andrew Ridley. Meica Jayne Horsburgh (née Christensen; born 24 February 1989) is an Australian goalball player. She began playing the sport in 2004, the same year she made her national team debut. After the national team took a three-year break, she was named the captain in 2010 and played in the Goalball World Championships. She represented Australia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics and was at the 2016 Summer Paralympics and 2020 Summer Paralympics. Personal Horsburgh was born in Wynnum North, Queensland, on 24 February 1989. She has a visual disability, with partial sight. Australia Women's National Goalball Team
Goalball is a team sport designed specifically for athletes with a visual impairment, vision impairment. Australia commenced its involvement in the sport in 1980. Its women's team has completed in trans-Tasman competitions, the International Blind Sports Federation, IBSA World Goalball Championships, and the :Goalball at the Summer Paralympics, Paralympic Games. Goalball World Championships
The IBSA Goalball World Championships is an international goalball tournament held every four years, since 1978, between Paralympic Games goalball tournaments. It is organised by the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Goalball Subcommittee. A 'world' youth-level championships was created in 2005. It was not officially recognised in the Rules until the 2014–2017 version, and has no prescribed selection process unlike the World Championships or Paralympic Games tournaments.
