Brodie Buckland
William "Brodie" Buckland (born 12 December 1983) is an American-born Australian rower. He participated in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London where he competed in the men's pair event together with his teammate James Marburg. They qualified for the A finals, where they reached a fifth place. He graduated from Harvard University in 2006. Rowing At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's Coxless Pair
The Men's coxless pair competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London took place are at Dorney Lake which, for the purposes of the Games venue, is officially termed Eton Dorney. Competition format The format of the competition was determined by how many boats are competing as at the entry deadline at the beginning of July. With 13 boats in with heats, the best boats qualify directly for the semi-finals. All other boats progress to the repechage round, which offers a second chance to qualify for the semi-finals. The best three boats in each of the two semi-finals qualify for final A, which determines places 1–6 (including the medals). Rowing is the act of propelling a human-powered watercraft using the sweeping motions of oars to displace water and generate reactional propulsion. Rowing is functionally similar to paddling, but rowing requires oars to be mechanically attached to the boat, and the rower drives the oar like a lever, exerting force in the ''same'' direction as the boat's travel; while paddles are completely hand-held and have no attachment to the boat, and are driven like a cantilever, exerting force ''opposite'' to the intended direction of the boat. James Marburg
James Marburg (born 27 December 1982) is an Australian retired rower. He is a dual Olympian, Olympic silver medallist and has represented Australia at five World Rowing Championships. Education Marburg attended St Patrick's College, Ballarat. He undertook undergraduate studies at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and legal studies at University of Melbourne. Club and national rowing Marburg's senior rowing was done from the Melbourne University Boat Club. He was selected in the Victorian state representative eights who raced for the King's Cup at the Australian Rowing Championships on eight consecutive occasions from 2005 to 2012.
