Donald Eric (D. E.) Broadbent CBE, FRS (Birmingham, 6 May 1926 – 10 April 1993) was an influential experimental psychologist from the UK His career and research bridged the gap between the pre-World War II approach of Sir Frederic Bartlett and what became known as Cognitive Psychology in the late 1960s. A ''Review of General Psychology'' survey, published in 2002, ranked Broadbent as the 54th most cited psychologist of the 20th century. Educated at the University of Cambridge, in 1958 he became director of the Applied Psychology Research Unit, set up by the UK Medical Research Council in 1944 to focus on Frederic Bartlett's work. George Robert Broadbent
George Robert Broadbent (3 November 1863 – 28 October 1947), was an Australian cycling champion and map publisher. Broadbent was born in Ashby, Victoria, the son of George Adam Broadbent, (who migrated from Lancashire), and his wife Elizabeth, ''née'' Ruffhead. The family moved to North Melbourne and Broadbent attended the Errol Street school. On leaving school, he became a draper, like his father, and became an early bicycling and bicycle-racing enthusiast. Broadbent held most Victorian and Australian cycling road records at various times. Two performances on solid tyres—203 miles (327 km) in 24 hours on a penny farthing, and 100 miles (161 km) in 6 hours 20 minutes on a 'safety' bicycle—were never surpassed. Francis George Broadbent (1909, Fulham, London – 13 January 1983, Wandsworth, London) was a 20th-century English architect known for his work in designing churches and schools for the Roman Catholic Church. Career Broadbent was a partner in the architectural firm Goodhart-Rendel Broadbent & Curtis in the 1950s and 1960s and took over the practice when Harry Stuart Goodhart-Rendel died. Subsequently, he became senior partner in Broadbent Hastings Reid & New, retiring in 1980. Born in Crumpsall, Lancashire, England, Broadbent operated under the auspices of the Plymouth Brethren movement.
