The British Virgin Islands Olympic Committee (IOC code: IVB) is the National Olympic Committee representing the British Virgin Islands. It is also the body responsible for the British Virgin Islands's representation at the Commonwealth Games. Subject to the controls of the International Olympic Committee, NOCs are responsible for organizing their people's participation in the Olympic Games. Commonwealth Games
The Commonwealth Games, often referred to as the Friendly Games or simply the Comm Games, are a quadrennial international multi-sport event among athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. The event was first held in 1930, and, with the exception of 1942 and 1946 (cancelled due to World War II), have successively run every four years since. The Games were called the British Empire Games from 1930 to 1950, the British Empire and Commonwealth Games from 1954 to 1966, and British Commonwealth Games from 1970 to 1974. Athletes with a disability are included as full members of their national teams since 2002, making the Commonwealth Games the first fully inclusive international multi-sport event. The British Virgin Islands has competed in every Summer Olympic Games since 1984. The best placement by an athlete from the country is fourth, by Kyron McMaster in men's 400m hurdles in 2020. The British Virgin Islands has competed twice at the Winter Olympics, first in 1984, and then in 2014. Their best placement in the Winter Olympic is 27th, by Peter Crook in the men's halfpipe skiing. The team uses the islands' territorial anthem, " Oh, Beautiful Virgin Islands", starting in 2020. Prior to this, the team had used the anthem of the United Kingdom, "God Save the Queen". A Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) is a national sports council of the Commonwealth Sports movement. Each association is responsible for organising, supporting and overseeing their national team for both the Commonwealth Games and the Commonwealth Youth Games.
