The British Swimming Championships - 800 metres freestyle winners formerly the ( Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) National Championships) are listed below. The event was originally contested over 880 yards and then switched to the metric conversion of 800 metres in 1971. Karen Mellor (born 6 May 1969) is a retired British swimmer. Swimming career Mellor competed in the women's 800 metre freestyle at the 1988 Summer Olympics. She represented England and won a silver medal in the 4 x 200 metres freestyle relay, at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. Jazmin Carlin
Jazmin Roxy "Jazz" Carlin (born 17 September 1990) is a former British competitive swimmer, who previously represented Wales and the Great Britain swimming team. She competed primarily in endurance freestyle events, and was based at the University of Bath. She won gold for Wales at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, double gold for Great Britain in the 400 metres and 800 metres freestyle at both the 2014 European Championships (long course) and the 2015 European Championships (short course) before winning two silver medals for Great Britain in the same events behind Katie Ledecky at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Daniel Lee Fogg (born 24 August 1987) is an English competitive swimmer who has represented Great Britain in the Olympics, World and European Championships as well as England in the Commonwealth Games. Daniel Fogg specialises in the 1500-metre freestyle and open water swimming events. Early career Daniel started his career swimming for London Borough of Waltham Forest (Gators) Swimming Club, representing the club at all levels, also captaining the club. In 2005, Daniel was selected to swim for the Great British Junior team at the European Junior Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Rebecca Adlington
Rebecca Adlington (born 17 February 1989) is a British former competitive swimmer who specialised in freestyle events in international competition. She won two gold medals at the 2008 Summer Olympics in the 400-metre freestyle and 800-metre freestyle, breaking the 19-year-old world record of Janet Evans in the 800-metre final. Adlington was Britain's first Olympic swimming champion since 1988, and the first British swimmer to win two Olympic gold medals since 1908. After winning her first World Championship gold over 800 metres in 2011, along with silver in the 400 metres at the same meet, she won bronze medals in both the women's 400-metre and 800-metre freestyle events in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Adam Faulkner (swimmer)
Adam Paul Faulkner (born 26 November 1981) is an English former competitive swimmer who represented Great Britain in the Olympic Games and competed for England in the Commonwealth Games. Faulkner specialised in long-distance freestyle events. He won a bronze medal, as a member of England swimming team, at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, with a final time of 7:22.56. Faulkner is a member of Nova Centurion Swimming Club in his home city of Nottingham under his coach Bill Furniss, who also trains with Rebecca Adlington. Faulkner made his official debut at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where he competed in the men's 1500 m freestyle. Rebecca Cooke (born 24 June 1983) is a retired British swimmer. Swimming career Cooke represented Great Britain in the Olympics, FINA world championships and European championships, and England in the Commonwealth Games. She competed internationally in freestyle and individual medley swimming events. She has won medals at every major international championships with the exception of the Olympic Games. She won the ASA National Championship 800 metres freestyle title for six consecutive years from 2000 until 2005. She retired from international competition in April 2008 after failing to make the British team for the 2008 Games in Beijing.
