British National Track Championships
The British National Track Championships are held annually and organised by British Cycling (formerly the British Cycling Federation). The main events are various track cycling disciplines for elite athletes to determine the British national champions. However, competitions are also held in age and disability categories. Until 1994 both amateur and professionals could take part in the 'Open' events, in addition to specific events that were restricted to either. The modern era is considered to have started in 1994 eventually replacing the amateur era. In November 1994, British Cycling moved its headquarters to the National Cycling Centre, Manchester, which held been opened earlier in the year by Princess Anne. Consequently, the Championships were held at Manchester Velodrome from 1995 to 2020. Paul Curran (cyclist)
Paul Curran (born 15 January 1961) is a former professional English racing cyclist from Thornaby, North Yorkshire. Curran rode for Great Britain in the Olympic Games, won the national road championship and won several medals at the Commonwealth Games. With wins in top amateur races in France, he could probably have secured a professional contract with a continental cycling team but preferred to remain in Britain. Cycling career Curran began riding for his local cycling club Stockton Wheelers and at the age of 14 completed a ten-mile time trial at Crathorne, North Yorkshire in 24–49. It was obvious he had talent when in 1977 he dominated the English schools national grass and track championship winning all three individual titles in the over-15-years category. Simon Lillistone (born 13 February 1969) is a male British former cyclist. Cycling career He competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics and the 1992 Summer Olympics. Colin Sturgess
Colin Andrew Sturgess (born 15 December 1968) is an English former road and track cyclist, who last worked as a directeur sportif for UCI Continental team . On the track, he won a gold and a bronze medal in the individual pursuit at the world championships in 1989 and 1991. He competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics in the 4 km individual pursuit and finished in fourth place. On the road, he won the British National Road Race Championships in 1990. In 2010 he was inducted to the British Cycling Hall of Fame. Early life Sturgess was born in Ossett, Wakefield, England, the only child of Alan and Ann Sturgess, both from London. Martin Guy Alan Webster (born 14 May 1943) is a British neo-nazi, a former leading figure on the far-right in the United Kingdom. An early member of the National Labour Party, he was John Tyndall's closest ally, and followed him in joining the original British National Party, the National Socialist Movement and the Greater Britain Movement. Webster also spent time in prison for helping to organise a paramilitary organisation, Spearhead, and was convicted under the Public Order Act 1936. Rumours of his homosexuality led to him becoming vilified in far-right circles, and he quietly disappeared from the political scene.
