The British Academy Video Games Award for Performer in a Leading Role is an award presented annually by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in honor of the best leading performance featured in a game "from voice artistry through to motion capture". BAFTA has honoured video game performances since the 8th British Academy Video Games Awards ceremony in 2012, with Mark Hamill winning the inaugural award for his performance as the Joker in '' Batman: Arkham City''. From 2012 to 2019, performers in both leading and supporting roles were considered together in the merged category of British Academy Games Award for Performer but, as of the 16th British Academy Games Awards, during a reconfiguration of categories, BAFTA announced that the Performer award would be split into both Leading and Supporting categories. The 18th British Academy Video Game Awards was hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts on 7 April 2022 to honour the best 2021 in video games, video games of 2021. Held at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, television presenter Elle Osili-Wood returned to host the ceremony for the second time. Co-operative action-adventure platformer ''It Takes Two (video game), It Takes Two'' and third-person roguelike shooter ''Returnal (video game), Returnal'' both led the nominations with nine. 17th British Academy Games Awards
The 17th British Academy Video Game Awards was hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts on 25 March 2021 to honour the best video games of 2020. It was held as a live-streamed event due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, with Elle Osili-Wood as host. This was Wood's first time hosting the ceremony, taking over from Dara Ó Briain who had hosting the BAFTAs ten times between 2008 and 2020. In the video game industry, 2020 saw the launch of the next generation of video game consoles, with both Microsoft and Sony Interactive Entertainment having released the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 consoles, respectively, in November 2020. Captain Price
Captain John Price is a fictional character in the ''Call of Duty'' series. He is the main protagonist of the original ''Modern Warfare'' sub-series. In the trilogy, Price first ranked as a lieutenant, before being promoted to Captain and taking charge of a Special Air Service squad.
