"Bristol Broadcasting Company" is a radio station chain operating 29 stations in four Southern United States markets: the Tri-Cities area of upper- east Tennessee and southwest Virginia (receiving its name from the twin cities of Bristol, Virginia and Bristol, Tennessee), Marion, Virginia, Paducah, Kentucky, and Charleston, West Virginia. In each market it operates a country music station with a rabbit mascot and the slogan "24 carrot country", a Top 40/CHR station under the title "Electric", and every News/Talk station carries the name "Super Talk". WZVA is a commercial radio station licensed to Marion, Virginia. Owned by Bristol Broadcasting Company, it broadcasts a contemporary hit radio format targeting Marion and Wytheville. History WZVA signed on September 2, 1996, By 2016, WZVA aired a country music format as ''Thunder Country 103.5''; on August 15, 2016, WZVA and WOLD-FM were sold to CDM Broadcasting, who took the stations over under a time brokerage agreement. WUKZ (1010 AM) is a broadcast radio station licensed to serve the community of Marion, Virginia, United States. The station broadcasts a Classic Hits format to Marion and Smyth County, Virginia. WUKZ is owned and operated by Lisa Nininger Bouldin, through licensee Bristol Broadcasting Company, Inc. WXBQ-FM is a Country formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Bristol, Virginia, serving the Tri-Cities. WXBQ-FM is owned and operated by Bristol Broadcasting Company, Inc. History WOPI-FM, sister to 1490 WOPI, signed on Christmas Day 1946 from atop Whitetop Mountain, a facility described at the time as "the largest frequency modulation station in the South". After 10 days using a temporary antenna, the station went on air with its regular 10 kW power on January 4, 1947. Building on Whitetop, Virginia's second-tallest mountain, meant bringing power lines six miles to the site and constructing a tower in high winds.
