Brionvega
Brionvega is an Italian electronics company that is known for manufacturing futuristic televisions and audio equipment. The company was founded in 1939 by Giuseppe Brion and Leone Pajettain in Milan. Initially named B.P.M. Radio, the company was rebranded as "BRIONVEGA" in 1963. In the early 1960s, the company began collaborations with notable industrial designers including brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Mario Bellini, Richard Sapper, and Marco Zanuso, resulting in the introduction of designs such as the TS 502 radio (a later "export" version of which was called the TS 522), Doney 14 and Algol 11 television sets. Marco Zanuso
Marco Zanuso (14 May 1916 – 11 July 2001) was a leading Italian Modernist architect and designer. Early life Marco Zanuso was born in Milan (Italy) 14 May 1916. He was one of a group of Italian designers from Milan shaping the international idea of "good design" in the postwar years. He began his studies in architecture at the Politecnico di Milano university in 1934 and graduated in 1939. During the Second World War he served in the navy, following which he opened his own design office in 1945. From the beginning of his career, at Domus where he served as the editor from 1947–49 and at Casabella where he was editor from 1952–56, where together which his close collaboration with Ernesto Nathan Rogers and others, he helped to establish the theories and ideals of the energetic Modern Design movement. Pier Giacomo Castiglioni
Pier Giacomo Castiglioni (22 April 1913–27 November 1968) was an Italian architect and designer. Early life and education Castiglioni was born on 22 April 1913 in Milan, in Lombardy in northern Italy. He was the second son of the sculptor Giannino Castiglioni and his wife Livia Bolla. Castiglioni studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano and graduated in 1937. His elder brother Livio and younger brother Achille were also architects. Castiglioni married Maria Coduri de Cartosio on 30 December 1942. Work and career In 1937 or 1938 he started an architectural design practice with his brother Livio and Luigi Caccia Dominioni. Achille Castiglioni
Achille Castiglioni (; 16 February 1918 – 2 December 2002) was an Italian architect and designer of furniture, lighting, radiograms and other objects. As a professor of design, he advised his students "If you are not curious, forget it. If you are not interested in others, what they do and how they act, then being a designer is not the right job for you." Early life and education Castiglioni was born on 16 February 1918 in Milan, in Lombardy in northern Italy. He was the third son of the sculptor Giannino Castiglioni and his wife Livia Bolla. Michael Young (born 23 August 1966) is a British industrial designer and creative director based in Hong Kong. He works in the areas of product, furniture and interior design with studios in Hong Kong and Brussels. He is known for unconventional use of materials and manufacturing processes, and collaborations with brands such as KEF, Coalesse and MOKE International. Mario Bellini (born February 1, 1935 in Milan) is an Italian architect, critic, and designer. He received a degree in architecture from Milan Polytechnic in 1959 and began working as an architect in the early 1960s. Like many other Italian architects of his generation, he is active in the fields of architecture and urban planning, industrial design, product design and furniture design. Ettore Sottsass (Innsbruck, Austria 14 September 1917 – Milan, Italy 31 December 2007) was a 20th century Italian architect, noted for also designing furniture, jewellery, glass, lighting, home and office wares, as well as numerous buildings and interiors — often defined by bold colours.
