Charles Oscar Brink (born Karl Oskar Levy; 13 March 1907 – 2 March 1994) was a German-Jewish classicist and Kennedy Professor of Latin at Cambridge University. After an education and an early career as a lexicographer in Weimar Republic, Weimar Germany, Brink emigrated to the United Kingdom in 1938. After brief stints at several British universities, he was appointed to the prestigious Kennedy chair of Latin at Cambridge in 1954. In this role, he established himself as one of the foremost scholars of a generation of Jews escaping from German-occupied Europe to the United Kingdom, Jewish scholars who fled Germany during the Third Reich. Lieutenant General George Edwin Brink, (27 September 1889 – 30 April 1971) was a South African military commander. Early life Brink was born at Jagersfontein, Orange Free State, on 27 September 1889 and was educated at Grey College, Bloemfontein. Military career In 1913, Brink joined the Union Defence Forces. In the First World War, he served in German East Africa during the first East African Campaign. In 1919, he attended the Imperial Staff College. On his return, Brink was appointed to the staff of the South African Military College, later being appointed Commandant of the College. Elisabeth Margarete Biermann (née Brink, born Frey; 2 April 1905 – 28 October 1985), known professionally as Elga Brink, was a German film actress. Brink rose to prominence in the early 1920s, when she starred in many silent films. Her last silent film was '' Marriage in Trouble'' in 1928. David Charles Brink (born 9 August 1939) is a South African businessman and sits on the boards of a number of large companies. Brink followed his father's footsteps by going into mining, he joined Anglo American from 1962 and was appointed section manager of Western Deep Levels in 1967.
