Bringelly
Bringelly is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is located on the Northern Road between Penrith and Camden. It has a public school. Bringelly is also the name of a local hill. History Bringelly was a name given to a district of Sydney in the early 19th century and later a parish of the County of Cumberland. The Parish of Bringelly also included the neighbouring suburbs of Greendale, Wallacia and Badgerys Creek. Robert Lowe was granted in the parish of Bringelly in 1812 and is believed to be the first British settler in the area. By 1818, most of the land had been granted and was being cleared for farms. The principal surgeon of New South Wales, D'Arcy Wentworth, received a grant in the area. Legend has it that The Wild Colonial Boy Bold Jack Donahue also used the suburb as a hideout and was eventually killed on Wentworth's property. Cumberland County, New South Wales
Cumberland County is a county in the State of New South Wales, Australia. Most of the Sydney metropolitan area is located within the County of Cumberland. The County of Cumberland stretches from Broken Bay to the north, the Hawkesbury River to the north-west, the Nepean River to the west, the Cataract River to the south-west and the northern suburbs of Wollongong to the south. It includes the area of the Cumberland Plain. Rossmore, New South Wales
Rossmore is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is bound to the east by Kemps Creek, the west by South Creek, the north by Fifteenth Avenue, and the south by Rileys Creek in the southwest and a non natural border from there. The main road through the centre of the suburb is Bringelly Road. History Rossmore was originally known as Cabramatta after the parish of Cabramatta. It was the subject of a novel called ''The Cabramatta Store'' by Mary Theresa Vidal, which is believed to be the first novel published by a woman in Australia. In 1856, the railway line was extended from Granville to Liverpool and a station was established at what is now the modern-day Cabramatta. Greendale, New South Wales
Greendale is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. History Greendale was originally home to the Mulgoa tribe of the Darug people. The first British explorer to visit the area was botanist George Caley in 1800. A number of land grants were made in the area in 1811, one of which was to a Mary Birch who named her property ''Greendale''. Another 1811 grant was made to Ellis Bent who was the colony's judge-advocate. Bents Basin, a recreational area on the Nepean River at Greendale is named after him. The land was mainly used for wheat farming until 1861 when wheat rust infected the entire crop. The local farmers tried other crops unsuccessfully and gradually moved to other pastoral areas, effectively killing off the town that had grown up in the area. Oran Park is a suburb of south-west Sydney, within the Macarthur Region, in the state of New South Wales, Australia in Camden Council. History The area now known as Oran Park was originally home to the Muringong, southernmost of the Darug people. In 1805 John Macarthur established his property at Camden where he raised merino sheep. Luddenham is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia 42 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government areas of the City of Penrith and City of Liverpool. It is part of the Greater Western Sydney region. History Luddenham takes its name from a property which was situated between South Creek and the Nepean River that was owned by John Blaxland, who received a grant of on 30 November 1813. His elder brother was the more famous Gregory Blaxland and Luddenham was the name of their family property in Kent, England. Jack Donahue
John Donahue (c. 1806 – 1 September 1830), also spelled Donohoe, and known as Jack Donahue and Bold Jack Donahue, was an Irish-born bushranger in Australia between 1825 and 1830. He became part of the notorious "Wild Colonial Boys". Early life and transportation Donahue was born in Dublin, Ireland c.1806. An orphan, he began pick-pocketing and, after later involvement in a burglary, was convicted of ''intent to commit a felony'' in 1823. After being detained aboard HMS Surprise, a convict hulk moored in Cork, in September 1824, he was transferred to the ship ''Ann and Amelia'' and transported with 200 other prisoners to Australia, arriving in Sydney in January 1825. Badgerys Creek, also known as Badgery's Creek, is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia, located approximately west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government areas of the City of Liverpool. Cobbitty is a rural town of the Macarthur Region near the town of Camden, southwest of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The area is mostly farmland with a population of around 2000. Overview The area is mostly farmland and agricultural. At the southern end of the suburb, bordering the Nepean River is Camden Airport, a site for gliding and skydiving. The main road, Cobbitty Road, is home to "Cobbitty Primary School", a general store, a small cafe, and "Teen Ranch". Teen Ranch is a Christian organisation that runs school and holiday programs for teens. Cobbitty is home to a New South Wales Rural Fire Service brigade.
