Brilliant Mind
"Brilliant Mind" is a song by British new wave band Furniture, released in 1986 by Stiff as the lead single from their second studio album ''The Wrong People''. It was written by Jim Irvin, Hamilton Lee, Sally Still and Tim Whelan, and produced by Mick Glossop. "Brilliant Mind" reached number 21 in the UK Singles Chart and remains the band's only entry in the chart. The song was featured in the John Hughes film '' Some Kind of Wonderful'' (1987). Background In 2010, Jim Irvin recalled of the song, "The chorus came to me as I got on a 110 bus in Hounslow, after signing on the dole. The only way was up. Furniture (band)
Furniture were a British new wave band, active from 1979 to 1991. The band is best known for the 1986 top 30 hit, " Brilliant Mind". The longest-serving and best-known line-up of Furniture (from 1983 to 1990), comprised founder members Jim Irvin (vocals), singer/multi-instrumentalist Tim Whelan and drummer Hamilton Lee, plus bass player/occasional singer Sally Still and keyboard player Maya Gilder. Larry N’Azone (saxophone) was an occasional member during this period and often appeared with the band live. Furniture's chief success was in the UK but they also enjoyed a following throughout Eastern Europe where they toured in 1987 and 1988. Hamilton Lee
Hamilton Lee (born 7 September 1958 in London, England), also known by variations on Hamid Mantu, is an English musician. Lee is best known as the drummer, percussionist and co-leader of Transglobal Underground, under his "Hamid Mantu" alias. He was also a core member of Furniture and has played with Natacha Atlas, The Transmitters, Lunar Dunes, Solus 3, Ghost Shirt, Xangbetos and the Flavel Bambi Septet as well as various session appearances. Peter Hook
Peter Hook (born Woodhead; 13 February 1956) is an English musician, best known as the bassist and co-founder of the rock bands Joy Division and New Order. Hook often used the bass as a lead instrument, playing melodies on the high strings with a signature heavy chorus effect. In New Order, he would do this, leaving the actual basslines to keyboards or sequencers. Hook formed the band which was to become Joy Division with Bernard Sumner in 1976. Following the death of lead singer Ian Curtis in 1980, the band reformed as New Order, and Hook played bass with them until 2007. Joy Division
Joy Division were an English rock band formed in Salford in 1976. The group consisted of vocalist Ian Curtis, guitarist/keyboardist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook and drummer Stephen Morris.
