Brignoles
Brignoles (; oc, Brinhòla) is a commune in the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of Southeastern France. Alongside Draguignan, it is one of two subprefectures in Var. It was the summer residence of the counts of Provence; their castle dates from the thirteenth century. In 2017, the commune of Brignoles had a population of 17,179. Victor Nicolas
Victor Edmond Nicolas (2 February 1906 – 16 July 1979) was a French sculptor. Biography Victor Nicolas was born in Brignoles, the son of Nicolas Bertin (1879–1918), professor of mathematics Mort pour la France, and Victorine Tardieu (1878–1965), teacher. He was the grandson of Fortuné Nicolas (1850–1920), judge of the canton court of Tavernes and mayor of Montmeyan from 1886 to 1892. He was married to Josette Behar (1911–2011), sculptor, graduated from the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris, with whom he had a son, Nicolas Vincent (1934–2009). Educated at the college of Lorgues and then in high school of Toulon, where he received a scholarship from the artists society in Toulon. Communauté d'agglomération de la Provence Verte is an intercommunal structure, centred on the cities of Brignoles and Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume. It is located in the Var department, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, southeastern France. It was created in January 2017. Joseph-Louis Lambot
Joseph-Louis Lambot (born 22 May 1814 in Montfort sur Argens; died 2 August 1887 in Brignoles), is the inventor of ferro-cement, which led to the development of what is now known as reinforced concrete. He studied in Paris, where his uncle Baron Lambot was aide-de-camp to the Duke of Bourbon. In 1841 he moved to his family's estate of Chateau Miraval in the Department of the Var (Southern France), where he applied himself to agriculture. It is around that time that he started constructing water tanks and troughs using cement mortar (masonry) and iron reinforcement most likely in the form of iron rods, chicken wire (which was invented in Britain in 1844 and used for shipping crates) and possibly barrel bands that were easily available with the arrival of the machine age. In 1848 he constructed his first boat using the same system, which he tested on ponds on the estate. Jean-Jacques Marcel (13 June 1931 – 3 October 2014) was a French international footballer who played midfielder. He was an integral part of the French national teams of the 1950s. Playing career The south Frenchman was signed in 1949 by the FC Sochaux and in their youth team but fast played to the first. Saint Louis of Toulouse (9 February 1274 – 19 August 1297), also known as Louis of Anjou, was a Neapolitan prince of the Capetian House of Anjou and a Catholic bishop. Life Louis was born in Brignoles, Provence (or in Italy, at Nocera, where he spent a part of his early life), the second son of King Charles II of Naples and Mary of Hungary. His father, Charles, became king of Naples in 1285 and was taken prisoner in Italy, during the war with King Peter III of Aragon that followed the Sicilian Vespers. Var (, ) is a department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of Southeastern France. It takes its name from the river Var, which flowed along its eastern boundary, until the boundary was moved in 1860 and the department is no longer associated with the river. François Just Marie Raynouard (18 September 1761–27 October 1836) was a French dramatist and linguist. Raynouard was born at Brignoles in Provence, trained for the bar, and practiced at Draguignan. In 1791 he represented the department of Var in the Legislative Assembly, but after the fall of his party, the Girondists, he went into hiding. Discovered and imprisoned in Paris, he wrote his play ''Caton d'Utique'' (1794) during his imprisonment. In 1803 he won the Institut de France's poetry prize. ''Éléonore de Bavière'' and ''Les Templiers'' were accepted by the Comédie-Française. ''Les Templiers'' was produced in 1805, and, over the opposition of Geoffroy, was a great success. Joseph Parrocel (3 October 1646 – 1 March 1704) was a French Baroque painter, best known for his paintings and drawings of battle scenes. He was born in Brignoles, into an artistic family that produced fourteen painters over six generations. His grandfather Georges Parrocel (1540- ca. 1614) (no surviving works) and his father Barthélemy Parrocel (1595–1660) were both painters. One badly restored painting of Bathélemy survives in the church of Saint-Sauveur in Brignoles, France.
