The Steal
The Steal were an English hardcore punk band, from Kingston upon Thames and Brighton. History They formed in late 2005, and were influenced by Minor Threat, 7 Seconds (band), 7 Seconds and Kid Dynamite (band), Kid Dynamite. In 2006 they completed a UK tour with American punk bands Set Your Goals (band), Set Your Goals and Lifetime (band), Lifetime. They were signed to Banquet Records, who organise shows in and around the Kingston upon Thames area in Greater London. In July 2006 the band recorded a live session for BBC Radio 1's The Lock Up (radio show), The Lock Up show. In August 2007, the band released their debut album in the U.S. on Get Outta Town Records, and toured the US East Coast. Shortly after this went on an unofficial hiatus for seven months at the end of which, in April 2008, they toured with Against Me! and released some new material in the way of a split 7-inch Single (music), single with another Brighton band, Beat Express. Hardcore punk (also known as simply hardcore) is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. It is generally faster, harder, and more aggressive than other forms of punk rock. Banquet Records
Banquet Records is a record shop in Kingston upon Thames, Greater London. Formerly part of the Beggars Banquet Records retail chain, it became fully independent in 2002. It stocks a broad range of music on both vinyl and CD. The establishment is also home to Gravity DIP music management, as well as the Banquet Records record label. History Started as part of the Beggars Banquet chain of record stores before becoming fully independent in 2002. The store was sold to the then manager, however decreased profits led the store to near bankruptcy towards the end of 2004. In February 2005, Banquet Records was taken over by new owners; previous employees of the Beggars store, Jon Tolley and Mike Smith. In 2017, the store won Music Week's award for best independent retailer of the year. Spiderland
''Spiderland'' is the second and final studio album by the American rock band Slint. It contains six songs played over 40 minutes, and was released by Touch and Go Records on March 27, 1991. Slint's lineup at the time of recording comprised Brian McMahan on vocals and guitar, David Pajo on guitar, Todd Brashear on bass guitar and Britt Walford on drums. ''Spiderland'' was engineered by Brian Paulson and recorded over four days in August 1990. The music and vocal melodies were composed throughout the summer of 1990, while lyrics were written in-studio. Forming in 1986 in Louisville, Kentucky, Slint had met as teenagers playing in the Midwestern punk scene but soon diverged sonically from their hardcore roots. Post-rock
Post-rock is a form of experimental rock characterized by a focus on exploring textures and timbre over traditional rock song structures, chords, or riffs. Post-rock artists are often instrumental, typically combining rock instrumentation with electronics. The genre emerged within the indie and underground music scene of the 1980s and early 1990s. However, due to its abandonment of rock conventions, it often bears little resemblance musically to contemporary indie rock, borrowing instead from diverse sources including ambient, electronica, jazz, krautrock, dub, and minimalist classical. Slint
Slint was an American rock band from Louisville, Kentucky, formed in 1986. The band consisted of guitarist and vocalist Brian McMahan, guitarist David Pajo, drummer and vocalist Britt Walford, Todd Brashear (bassist on ''Spiderland''), and Ethan Buckler (bassist on ''Tweez''). Slint's first album, ''Tweez'', was recorded by engineer Steve Albini in 1987 and released in obscurity on the Jennifer Hartman Records label in 1989. It was followed two years later by the critically acclaimed ''Spiderland'', released on the independent label Touch and Go Records. They have reunited sporadically since 1990.
