Bridge Street Neck Historic District
The Bridge Street Neck Historic District is a predominantly residential historic district in Salem, Massachusetts. It encompasses most of a peninsula of land northeast of downtown Salem, on the route connecting Salem to Beverly, which has been the scene of residential, commercial, and industrial development since the early settlement of Salem in the 1630s. Bridge Street, the spine of the district is a thoroughfare connecting Salem to the bridge leading to Beverly. The district is roughly bounded by railroad tracks to its west, the shore of the peninsula to the east, On the north it is bounded by modern (post-1952) developments, and on the south it abuts the Salem Common Historic District. In addition to properties on Bridge Street, the district includes properties on side streets between March/Osgood Streets, and Howard/Webb Streets. Salem Common Historic District (Salem, Massachusetts)
Salem Common Historic District is a historic district bounded roughly by Bridge, Derby, and St. Peter's streets, as well as Collins Cove in Salem, Massachusetts, United States. The Common was established in 1667, and during this period it was partially a swamp. Until 1802, there was no enclosing fence, allowing livestock to freely roam across it. In 1802 a subscription was put forth to beautify the park. The current wrought iron fence around the Common was built in 1850 and has undergone restoration. The white archway that stands near the north entrance was originally a design by Samuel McIntire, but it had to be removed because of its condition. The current archway is a replica of the original that was made in 1976. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 12, 1976, and further expanded on June 27, 2002. Thomas March Woodbridge House
Thomas March Woodbridge House is a historic house at 48 Bridge Street in Salem, Massachusetts. Description and history The three story brick house was built in 1809 for Thomas March Woodbridge, owner of a local tannery. Its construction has been attributed to noted Salem builder Samuel McIntire, based on its similarity to other McIntire works. It is square, with five bays on each side. The front door is centered on the main facade topped by a semi-elliptical fanlight and flanked by sidelight windows. Entrances on the side elevations are sheltered by broken pediments supported by Doric columns. Woodbridge died in 1822, after which the house went through a succession of owners. It was briefly owned by the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities (now Historic New England) before it was bought by Children's Friend and Family Service Society of the North Shore, Inc. in 1955.
