Brick Lane Circle
The Brick Lane Circle is a voluntary organisation based in Tower Hamlets, London, which organises talks, seminars and conferences on subjects relating to Bangladesh and Bangladeshis abroad. Its events are free and open to all members of the public. Since 2010, it has organised an annual Bengal History Week based at the Whitechapel Idea Store (library) each October. Its East India company project has been one of its more popular topics. This hosted talks by notable historians of the East India Company such as Nick Robins. At the same time it also worked with such experts to help local young people and other novice authors in London to write and publish their own research and work on the company's history. It won an award from Channel S in 2011 for supporting academic excellence. The London Borough of Tower Hamlets is a London boroughs, London borough covering much of the traditional East End of London, East End. It was formed in 1965 from the merger of the former Metropolitan boroughs of the County of London, metropolitan boroughs of Metropolitan Borough of Stepney, Stepney, Metropolitan Borough of Poplar, Poplar, and Metropolitan Borough of Bethnal Green, Bethnal Green. Whitechapel Idea Store
Whitechapel is a district in East London and the future administrative centre of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It is a part of the East End of London, east of Charing Cross. Part of the historic county of Middlesex, the area formed a civil and ecclesiastical parish after splitting from the ancient parish of Stepney in the 14th century. It became part of the County of London in 1889 and Greater London in 1965. Because the area is close to the London Docklands and east of the City of London, it has been a popular place for immigrants and the working class. The area was the centre of the London Jewish community in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The National Lottery Heritage Fund, formerly the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), distributes a share of National Lottery funding, supporting a wide range of heritage projects across the United Kingdom.
