Brian Skiff
Brian A. Skiff is an American astronomer noted for discovering numerous asteroids and a number of comets including the periodic comets 114P/Wiseman–Skiff (with Jennifer Wiseman) and 140P/Bowell–Skiff (with Edward Bowell). Biography Skiff received his BS from Northern Arizona University in 1977 and has worked as an astronomer at Lowell Observatory since 1976. Between 1980 and 1997, he has also discovered a total 60 numbered minor planets, including , a dark Jupiter trojan about 37 kilometers in diameter. Working on the LONEOS project he rediscovered the long lost asteroid 69230 Hermes in October 2003 and the Apohele asteroid in May 2004. He is also a volleyball player with the Mars Hill summer volleyball squad. Awards and honors The Florian main-belt asteroid 2554 Skiff was named in his honour. It was discovered on 17 July 1980, by American astronomer Edward Bowell at Lowell's Anderson Mesa Station near Flagstaff, Arizona. The presumed S-type asteroid has a rotation period of 25.6 hours and was named after astronomer Brian Skiff. Orbit and classification ''Skiff'' is a member of the Flora family (), a giant asteroid family and the largest family of stony asteroids in the main-belt. Based on an alternative HCM-classification, the Asteroid Dynamic Site groups this asteroid to the core members of the Levin family, a proposed Florian subfamily of 1145 bodies which is named after its parent body 2076 Levin. 4149 Harrison, provisional designation , is a stony Eunomian asteroid from the middle region of the asteroid belt, approximately 10 kilometers in diameter. The asteroid was discovered on 9 March 1984, by American astronomer Brian Skiff at Lowell's Anderson Mesa Station in Flagstaff, Arizona, and named after musician George Harrison. Orbit and classification ''Harrison'' is a member of the Eunomia family, a large group of S-type asteroids and the most prominent family in the intermediate main-belt. It orbits the Sun in the central main-belt at a distance of 2.3–3.0  AU once every 4 years and 4 months (1,590 days). 4147 Lennon, provisional designation , is a stony Vestian asteroid and a potentially slow rotator from the inner regions of the asteroid belt, approximately 7 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered by American astronomer Brian Skiff at Lowell's Anderson Mesa Station on 12 January 1983. It was later named after musician John Lennon. Orbit and classification ''Lennon'' is a member of the Vesta family, which is named after the main-belt's second largest asteroid, 4 Vesta. It orbits the Sun in the inner main-belt at a distance of 2.2–2.6  AU once every 3 years and 8 months (1,326 days). 3872 Akirafujii, provisional designation , is a carbonaceous Eunomia asteroid from the middle region of the asteroid belt, approximately 15 kilometers in diameter. The asteroid was discovered on 12 January 1983, by American astronomer Brian Skiff at Lowell's Anderson Mesa Station, near Flagstaff, Arizona. It was later named after Japanese astronomer Akira Fujii. Orbit and classification ''Akirafujii'' has been identified as a member of the Mitidika family, a dispersed asteroid family of typically carbonaceous C-type asteroids. The family is named after 2262 Mitidika (diameter of 9  km) and consists of 653 known members, the largest ones being 404 Arsinoë (95 km) and 5079 Brubeck (17 km).
