Brian Naylor (broadcaster)
Brian Norman Naylor (21 January 19317 February 2009) was an Australian television broadcaster and presenter, best known for his longstanding stint as chief news presenter at Seven Network (HSV-7) from 1970 to 1978 and for Nine Network (GTV-9) from 1978 to 1998 and his sign-off line, "May your news be good news, and good-night." Early life Naylor was born on 21 January 1931. He grew up in Melbourne, initially attending Melbourne High School until the onset of World War II, when he was relocated to Camberwell High School, along with all of the students at his school. Completing his schooling in Form 5 (Year 11), his first job was as a production cadet at the Australian Paper Manufacturers. Naylor left APM when his manager started Woodweev Blinds, a blinds manufacturer, for which Naylor produced the original radio advertisement. Swallow's Juniors
''Swallow's Juniors'' was a popular Australian radio and television series, which aired on 3DB (Melbourne) at 6.30 pm on a Saturday evening, from the 1950s and into the early 1960s. It was telecast from November 1957 to 1970 on Melbourne television station HSV-7. There was a period of radio/TV simulcasting before it was exclusively telecast. It was a talent contest featuring young performers, and was initially hosted by 3DB breakfast announcer John Eden. However Brian Naylor soon took over as compere. In 1964, the title was changed to ''Brian and the Juniors''. The series was one of several talent shows broadcast on HSV-7 during 1957, the others including ''Stairway to the Stars'' (1956-1958) and ''Swallows Parade'' (1957). Peter Hitchener
Peter Donald Beauchamp Hitchener Order of Australia, OAM (born 21 February 1946) is an Australian television presenter. He has been the chief news presenter for GTV (Australia), GTV-9 of their flagship bulletin ''Nine News Melbourne'' since 1998, and prior to that was the weekend news presenter. Career Originally from Texas, Queensland, Texas in rural Queensland, Hitchener began his media career in 1965 at the Brisbane radio station Magic 882, 4BH where he wrote, edited and presented news bulletins. Eric Pearce (broadcaster)
Sir Eric Herbert Pearce, OBE (5 March 190512 April 1997) was an English-born broadcaster and television pioneer in Australia. Pearce was born in Hampshire, England, and had an early career in radio on the BBC before migrating to Australia, where he was a long-term newsreader on Melbourne television stations HSV Channel 7 (1956–65) and GTV Channel 9 (late 1950s–74, 1976–78). Pearce's catchphrase sign-off of his news reports, "God bless you, and you", was for viewers and his third wife. GTV (Australia)
GTV is a commercial television station in Melbourne, Australia, owned by the Nine Network. The station is currently based at studios at 717 Bourke Street, Docklands. History GTV-9 was amongst the first television stations to begin regular transmission in Australia. Test transmissions began on 27 September 1956, introduced by former 3DB radio announcer Geoff Corke, based at the Mount Dandenong transmitter, as the studios in Richmond were not yet ready. The station covered the 1956 Summer Olympics which Melbourne hosted., the 1956 Carols By Candlelight and the Davis Cup tennis as part of its test transmissions. The station was officially opened on 19 January 1957 by Victorian Governor Sir Dallas Brooks from the studios in Bendigo Street, Richmond. Jamie Redfern (born 9 April 1957) is an English-born Australian television presenter and personality and pop singer. Redfern was an original cast member of children's variety show, ''Young Talent Time'' from April 1971 to early 1972, before leaving the show to tour in the US with Liberace. According to Australian musicologist, Ian McFarlane, he "possessed a booming, mature voice which belied his tender age... escored four Top 40 hit singles and sold more than $1.3 million worth of records."
