Brian Munz
Brian Munz is a Canadian broadcaster formerly employed by Bell Media, working on TSN 1290 and TSN, primarily on Winnipeg Jets broadcasts and Hockey Canada events. He is currently the director of communications for Golf Manitoba. Hockey announcing career In addition to his work for the Winnipeg Jets, Munz formerly worked for CJOB 680 radio as the play-by-play announcer for the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League. He has called Saskatchewan Junior Hockey games on the radio for five seasons for the Nipawin Hawks, Humboldt Broncos, and Melfort Mustangs. Munz was also the play-by-play man for the American Hockey League's Edmonton Road Runners for one year and then hosted game coverage for the Edmonton Oilers. While employed by TSN, he also served as backup to regular announcer Dennis Beyak. The Edmonton Road Runners were an ice hockey team in the American Hockey League. They played in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada at Rexall Place. History After the 2003–04 season the Edmonton Oilers announced that the Toronto Roadrunners would play the 2004–05 season in Edmonton, where they were based in the Oilers' own arena, Rexall Place. The NHL team's decision to re-locate its affiliate to Edmonton was an unusual one for a North American professional sports organization, and was likely influenced by the expectation that the 2004–05 NHL lockout would wipe out the 2004–05 NHL season. The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is a Junior 'A' ice hockey league operating in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan and one of nine member leagues of the Canadian Junior Hockey League. Open to North American-born players 20 years of age or younger, the SJHL's 12 teams play in three divisions: the Olympic Buildings, Sherwood and Viterra Divisions. Dennis Beyak is a former Canadian hockey play-by-play broadcaster from Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was TSN's play-by-play announcer for Winnipeg Jets games through to the end of the 2021-22 NHL season. Broadcasting career Beyak began his broadcasting career in 1970 at CFAR as a play-by-play announcer for the Flin Flon Bombers of the Western Canada Hockey League. Beyak has also provided commentary for the WHL's Saskatoon Blades, Victoria Cougars, and Seattle Thunderbirds. Beyak's first NHL broadcasting job was at CFRN-TV, as the television play-by-play announcer of the Edmonton Oilers. from 1995 until 1997, when CFRN lost the local TV contract to the newly formed A-Channel. CFRW
CFRW (1290 AM) is a radio station in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Owned by Bell Media, it is co-located with its sister stations CKMM-FM and CFWM-FM on 1445 Pembina Highway. Its transmitter is located near Oak Bluff along Road 54 off McGillivray Boulevard. History Early years On November 1, 1963, the station first signed on as CJQM. At the same time, FM sister station CJQM-FM also came on the air. The two stations simulcast an easy listening format. CJQM-AM-FM were owned by Winnipeg Broadcast Associates Ltd. (a division of Vancouver Broadcast Associates, the original owners of CHQM and CHQM-FM in Vancouver). CJQM originally broadcast at 1470 kHz, powered at 5,000 watts. The Humboldt Broncos are a Canadian junior "A" ice hockey team from Humboldt, Saskatchewan. Established in 1970, the Broncos play in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. History The Broncos were established in 1970 by a group of local organizers. The team was originally affiliated with the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League, who supplied the team with team name, jerseys and some players.
