Brian Mears
Joseph Brian Mears (25 April 1931 – 28 July 2009) was a chairman of Chelsea Football Club. He was the son of Joe Mears, also a chairman of Chelsea, and grandson of Joseph Mears, co-founder of the club. He was born in Richmond, Surrey, and educated at Malvern College. In 1950 he emigrated to Canada where he began working life in a seed factory. Ken Bates
Kenneth William Bates (born 4 December 1931) is a British businessman, football executive and hotelier. He was involved in the development of Wembley Stadium and is the former owner and chairman of football clubs Chelsea and Leeds United. Bates spent five years as chairman of Oldham Athletic during the 1960s and also had a spell at Wigan Athletic. In 1982, he purchased Chelsea for £1. During his tenure, he helped the club win a long-running battle with property developers who were attempting to evict them from their Stamford Bridge home. By the end of his reign, Chelsea were regularly finishing in the top six of the Premier League and had won their first major trophies since the 1970s, although they had a debt burden of around £80 million. Matthew Jonathan Wicks (born 8 September 1978) is an English former professional footballer who played as a central defender. Wicks was viewed as "one of the most promising players of his generation" but never lived up to the label. Club career Born in Reading, Wicks began his career with youth contracts at both Arsenal and Manchester United, but failed to make a league appearance for either team. Steve Wicks (born 31 October 1956) is an English former professional footballer. He was a tall, solid, imposing player who played as a centre-half. He most notably played for Chelsea, Derby County and Queens Park Rangers in the 1970s and 1980s. Wicks made his debut for Chelsea aged 19 in 1975. After initially leaving QPR for Crystal Palace in 1981 he returned to QPR in March 1982, but was cup-tied for their appearance in the 1982 FA Cup Final. Matthew Charles Harding (26 December 1953 – 22 October 1996) was a British businessman, vice-chairman of Chelsea F.C., Chelsea Football Club and a major financial supporter of New Labour. Early years and education Harding was born in Haywards Heath, Sussex, the son of Paul Harding, an insurance executive. He attended Abingdon School in Abingdon-on-Thames from 1964 until 1971.
