Brian Maienschein
Brian Maienschein (born May 22, 1969) is an American attorney and politician currently serving in the California State Assembly, representing the 77th district, encompassing parts of northeastern San Diego since 2012. Prior to serving in the state assembly, he was a member of the San Diego City Council, and the city's first Commissioner on Homelessness. He is most known for his response to two wildfires in his district, the 2003 Cedar Fire and the 2007 Witch Creek Fire, as well as for the completion of California State Route 56 and the preservation from development of 10,000 acres in the San Pasqual Valley. Early life and education Maienschein graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1991 with a bachelor of arts degree in communications. San Diego City Council Elections, 2004
The 2004 San Diego City Council election occurred on November 2, 2004. The primary election was held on March 2, 2004. Four of the eight seats of the San Diego City Council were contested. This election used the boundaries created by the 2000 Redistricting Committee for the odd-numbered districts. All four incumbent council members ran for reelection in their respective districts. Municipal elections in California are officially non-partisan, although most candidates do identify a party preference. A two-round system was used for the election, starting with a primary in March followed by a runoff in November between the top-two candidates if no candidate received a majority of the votes in the first round.
