Brian Hogan (other)
Brian Hogan (born 14 August 1981) is an Irish hurler who played as a centre-back at senior level for the Kilkenny county team until he announced his retirement in 2014. Hogan made his first appearance for the team during the 2004 championship and has become a regular player over the last few seasons. During that time he has won seven All-Ireland winners' medals, eight Leinster winners' medals, six National League winners' medals and two All-Star award. In 2011 Hogan captained the team to the All-Ireland title. At club level Hogan is a double Leinster medalist with O'Loughlin Gaels. In addition to this he has also won three county championship winners' medals. Playing career Club Hogan plays his club hurling with the O'Loughlin Gaels club in Kilkenny city and has enjoyed much success. O'Loughlin Gaels GAA
O'Loughlin Gaels is a Gaelic Athletic Association club situated in the St. John’s parish of Kilkenny city, County Kilkenny, Ireland. History The club was founded in 1969, replacing the St. John’s Hurling Club that started back in 1887. O'Loughlin Gaels are one of the most successful Kilkenny clubs of the new millennium, winning county titles in 2001 and 2003. In 2003, they went on to claim their first Leinster senior title. In January 2011, they claimed their second Leinster title after a 0-14 to 1-8 win against Oulart-the-Ballagh in the final. The club was named AIB Club of the Year in 1983. Oulart The Ballagh GAA
Oulart (, formerly ''Ubhallghort'' - ''"the orchard"''), is a small village in the southeastern corner of Ireland. It is situated in County Wexford just off the R741 regional road halfway between the towns of Gorey to the north and Wexford to the south. Raheenduff or "Black little fort" in English, is a small hamlet within the extremities of Oulart village and is home of Cooney's local grain store, village store and public house, which has been managed by the Redmond family since the 1950s. Two other townlands in Oulart, Kilnamanagh and Kyle, are home to businesses such as a plant nursery, pubs, SPAR supermarket, and auto services business. Oulart had a population of 197 people in 2006, 257 in 2011, and 274 according to the 2016 census. The Battle of Oulart Hill took place near Oulart during the 1798 rebellion. Liam MacCarthy Cup
The Liam MacCarthy Cup is a trophy awarded annually by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) to the team that wins the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the main competition in the prehistoric sport of hurling. Based on the design of a medieval drinking vessel, the trophy was first awarded in 1923 to the winners of the (delayed) 1921 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final. The original 1920s trophy was retired in the 1990s, with a new identical trophy awarded annually since 1992. The original trophy is on permanent display in the GAA Museum at Croke Park in Dublin. The GAA organises the series of games, which are played during the summer months. Henry Shefflin
Henry Shefflin (born 11 January 1979) is an Irish hurling manager and former player who is the current manager of the Galway senior hurling team. In his playing career he was nicknamed "King Henry" because of his directive style, dominance, competitive spirit and leadership on the field. A versatile forward who started out in the corner, Shefflin made his name in more commanding positions as a centre or full-forward. He is widely regarded to be one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, with many former players, commentators and fans rating him as the number one player of all time. Raised in Ballyhale, County Kilkenny, Shefflin served an obligatory but underrated hurling apprenticeship at St Kieran's College. Eddie Brennan
Edward Joseph Brennan (born 2 October 1978) is an Irish hurling manager and former player. His league and championship career with the Kilkenny senior team lasted twelve seasons from 2000 until 2011. Brennan was the manager of the Laois senior hurling team from 2019 to 2020. Brennan played competitive hurling in his final year at St Kieran's College, having earlier come to prominence as a dual player at minor levels with the Graigue–Ballycallan club. He won dual championship medals with the minor and under-21 teams, before later joining the club's junior team. Brennan eventually made the break onto the Graigue–Ballycallan senior team and won a Leinster medal in 2000, having earlier won a county senior championship medal. John Tennyson
John Tennyson (born 6 February 1985) is an Irish hurler who played as a centre-back for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in County Kilkenny, Tennyson first played competitive hurling whilst at school in St. Kieran's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Kilkenny minor team, before later lining out with the under-21 and intermediate sides. He made his senior debut during the 2005 championship. Tennyson went on to play for what has come to be known as the greatest team of all-time, and has won three All-Ireland medals, four Leinster medals and two National Hurling League medals. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion.
