Brian Cox (rugby League)
Brian Cox is an Australian rugby league footballer who played as a who played for Parramatta and Cronulla-Sutherland who played in the 1960s and 1970s. He was an inaugural player for Cronulla and played in the club's first ever game. Playing career Cox began his first grade career with Parramatta in 1960. In his two seasons at the club, Parramatta finished last on the table claiming the wooden spoon. In 1962, under the guidance of new coach Ken Kearney, Parramatta went from easy beats to a competitive side and qualified for their first final series in 1962. Cox missed out on the 1963 season but returned in 1964 as Parramatta finished 2nd on the table. Cox played in both finals games as the club were defeated by Balmain in the preliminary final. In 1967, Cox joined Cronulla who had just been admitted into the NSWRL competition along with Penrith. Parramatta Eels
The Parramatta Eels are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in the Sydney suburb of Parramatta that competes in the National Rugby League. The Parramatta District Rugby League Football Club was formed in 1947, and their home ground was Parramatta Stadium (formerly Cumberland Oval). As of 2019, Parramatta's home ground stadium has been rebuilt and they now play as the co-tenants at Western Sydney Stadium, which sits on the same site that was once Parramatta Stadium. It took thirty years for the club to make the grand final, which they did in 1976 and 1977, losing on both occasions. However, this period foreshadowed their most successful period in the early 1980s, when they won four premierships and qualified for five grand finals in six seasons. Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks
The Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks are an Australian professional rugby league club based in Cronulla, in the Sutherland Shire, Southern Sydney, New South Wales. They compete in the National Rugby League (NRL), Australasia's premier rugby league competition. The Sharks, as they are commonly known, were admitted to the New South Wales Rugby League premiership, predecessor of the Australian Rugby League and the current National Rugby League competition, in January 1967. Kenneth Howard "Killer" Kearney (3 May 192418 August 2006) was an Australian rugby footballer – a List of dual-code rugby internationals, dual-code international player – and a rugby league coach. Sydney Sports Ground
The Sydney Sports Ground No. 1 was a Stadium and Dirt track racing venue in Sydney, New South Wales. The ground was located where the car park of the Sydney Football Stadium (SFS) currently sits. The ground had two main grandstands and was surrounded by a grass covered hill, giving it a capacity of more than 35,000. It was demolished along with the smaller No.2 Ground in 1986 to allow the building of the SFS, which opened in 1988.
