Brian Cowan
Brian Cowan (1962 – January 2021) was a British actor, known for his role as Robert Davenport in the long running soap opera, ''Family Affairs''. He starred in ''Taggart'' from 1993 to 2005 as DCS Brian Holmes, the partner of Blythe Duff's character, DS Jackie Reid. He was also known for playing Murray Crozier from 2010 to 2014 in the Scottish soap ''River City''. He quit acting in 2014 to become a celebrant. ''Family Affairs'' is a British soap opera that aired on Channel 5. It debuted on 30 March 1997, the day of the launch of said channel and was the first programme broadcast on the channel. It was screened as five thirty-minute episodes per week, followed by an omnibus edition on Sundays. The series never achieved high ratings, so it went through a number of dramatic revamps involving wholesale cast turnover. The premise of the series was also refocused from a family in a quiet suburb just outside London, to a range of different people living on a bustling outer London street. The series was shot on video to give a film look. In 1999 and 2004, single episodes used standard video presentation for testing purposes. Blythe Duff
Blythe Duff (born 25 November 1962) is a Scottish actress best known for her role as Jackie Reid in the ITV television series drama, ''Taggart''. Background Duff was born and raised in East Kilbride. Her love of acting started with youth theatre. On leaving Hunter High School she joined The Company, a youth opportunities theatre company, based at the Glasgow Arts Centre in Washington Street and spent her summers with the Scottish Youth Theatre. She entered the profession in 1983 with her first job at the Young Playwrights Festival (Scottish Youth Theatre/The Traverse). Career Duff's career began in the theatre, starting with the Scottish Youth and Community Theatre in Glasgow. She worked in theatre for seven years, appearing with Scottish Opera in ''Street Scene'' as Shirley Kaplan in 1989, and at the Coliseum Theatre in London with the English National Opera. ''River City'' is a Scottish television soap opera that was first broadcast on BBC One Scotland on 24 September 2002. ''River City'' follows the lives of the people who live and work in the fictional district of Shieldinch.
