Bredevoort (Low Saxon: ) is a small city with city privileges of about 1600 inhabitants in the municipality of Aalten, Netherlands. It is between the towns of Aalten and Winterswijk. Bredevoort has presented itself as ''Bredevoort boekenstad'' (''Bredevoort book town''), after the examples of Hay-on-Wye in Wales and Redu in Belgium. There are now more than 20 second-hand book shops in the town. Bredevoort was a ''Heerlijkheid'' and a separate municipality until 1818. Brevoort Park is a primarily residential neighbourhood located in the southeast part of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. It includes part of the 8th Street business district. Just over half of its dwellings are single detached houses, with a sizeable minority of duplex or apartment-style multiple unit dwellings. As of 2007, the area is home to 3,424 residents. Brevort Township is a civil township of Mackinac County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 census, the population was 502, down from 594 in 2010. The township was named after Henry Brevort (or Brevoort), a surveyor assigned to subdivide the area in 1845. Most of the township land is within the eastern portion of the Hiawatha National Forest. The township includes part of the Mackinac Wilderness. Geography The township is in central Mackinac County, bordered to the west and south by Moran Township and to the east by St. Ignace Township. James Renwick Brevoort (July 20, 1832 – December 15, 1918) was an American artist known for his landscapes painted in the Hudson River School style. Background and career Brevoort was born in Yonkers, New York to a prosperous family with a history of involvement in the arts and architecture. He spent his childhood in what is now The Bronx, which in Brevoort's time was mainly rural. Continuing in the family tradition, Brevoort initiated his study of architecture in 1850 with his cousin, James Renwick Jr., designer of St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC. He gained a certificate in architecture from New York University in 1854, but at some point in the 1850s his interest shifted to traditional painting. Marguerite "Meta" Claudia Brevoort (November 8, 1825 – December 19, 1876) was an American mountain climber. Brevoort was born on November 8, 1825, and spent her early years in a Paris convent school. She made a number of important ascents in the Alps in the 1860s and 1870s, but was thwarted in her two greatest alpine ambitions: to be the first woman to climb the Matterhorn, and the first person to climb the Meije in the Dauphiné. Her role-model and rival was Lucy Walker, who began her considerable mountaineering career at the age of 28, in 1859. In 1871, hearing that Brevoort planned an expedition to the Matterhorn in 1871, Walker quickly assembled a party that included the famous guide Melchior Anderegg, and made the summit a few days before Brevoort arrived in Zermatt.
