Stephan von Breuning (21 November 1894 – 11 March 1983) was an Austrian entomologist who specialised in the study of beetles (coleopterology), particularly within the longhorn family (Cerambycidae). Career An amateur working on the rich collections of the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle, he described 7894 taxa of Cerambycidae. Works The complete list of his entomological works has been published in the ''Bulletin de la Société Sciences Nat'', number 41. One of his most famous works is ''Études sur les Lamiaires'', published in ''Novitates Entomologicae'', 1934–1946. Personal life He gave the photo shown together with a text to be published after his death. Von Breuning lived with his wife in a small studio at the top of an old building on rue Durantin, Paris 18ème. Stephan Von Breuning (librettist)
Stephan von Breuning (17 August 1774 – 4 June 1827) was a German civil servant and librettist. He was Ludwig van Beethoven's lifelong friend, from his childhood in Bonn when receiving music lessons until acting as executor in Vienna. Life Born in Bonn, Breuning was the son of Emanuel Joseph von Breuning and his wife Helene von Breuning, also known as ''Beethoven's second mother''. In 1784, the family made the acquaintance of Ludwig van Beethoven in their home at Bonn. He became a close friend to the family and gave piano lessons to the Breuning children Eleonore and Lorenz. In 1801, Breuning moved to Vienna where four years later Beethoven's ''Fidelio'' was premiered. Besides Joseph Sonnleithner and Georg Friedrich Treitschke, Breuning also contributed to the libretto. In 1806, Beethoven dedicated his violin concerto op. 61 to his friend. Following Beethoven's death in 1827, Breuning assisted in handling affairs of the estate, but he died at age 52 only a few months after ... Walter Breuning (September 21, 1896 – April 14, 2011) was an American supercentenarian who lived for 114 years and 205 days and was, at the time of his death, the oldest living man in the world and the third-oldest verified man ever, behind Christian Mortensen and Emiliano Mercado del Toro. As of 2023, he is the fourth-oldest. Biography Walter Breuning was born in Melrose, Minnesota. He was the son of John and Cora ( Morehouse) Breuning, and had two brothers and two sisters. In 1901, when he was 5, his family moved to De Smet, South Dakota, where he went to school for nine years until his family broke up in 1910. Breuning referred to this time as "the dark ages", as his family lived without electricity, water, or plumbing. Apart from his parents, who died at 50 and 46, longevity runs in Breuning's family. His paternal and maternal grandparents lived into their 90s and his siblings lived to ages 78, 85, 91, and 100. His only surviving family at the time of his death were 1 nie ...
