Brett Woodifield
Brett Wayne Woodifield (born 15 March 1976) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Australia. Career Woodifield started his British leagues career during the 1997 Premier League speedway season, where he rode for Skegness Braves and the Isle of Wight Islanders, following the former's withdrawal from the league. The following season he signed for Peterborough Panthers and was part of the team that secured a 1998 League and cup double. He was also selected by Peterborough for the Premier League Pairs Championship to partner Glenn Cunningham and the pair won the Championship. Peterborough moved up to the top division to compete in the 1999 Elite League speedway season, which saw Woodifield leave the club for the season and ride for rivals Ipswich Witches in the same division. He returned to Peterborough for the 2000 season before moving on to Trelawny Tigers in 2001. Gawler, South Australia
Gawler is the oldest country town on the Australian mainland in the state of South Australia. It was named after the second Governor (British Vice-Regal representative) of the colony of South Australia, George Gawler. It is about north of the centre of the state capital, Adelaide, and is close to the major wine producing district of the Barossa Valley. Glenn Cunningham (speedway Rider)
Glenn Cunningham (born 10 June 1975 in Bristol) is a former International speedway rider who rode for the various clubs in the British Premier League. Speedway career Glenn started his career with Oxford Cheetahs in 1991 and has since ridden for the Swindon Robins, Reading Racers, Peterborough Panthers, Newport Wasps, Belle Vue Aces, Eastbourne Eagles and Somerset Rebels. In 1998 he reached the Overseas Final and finished on the podium in third place, as well as winning the Premier League Championship, the Premier League Riders Championship, the Premier League Fours and the Premier League Pairs with his club side, Peterborough Panthers. To cap his best ever season he was selected to ride for England against Australia at Eastbourne. 1999 Elite League Speedway Season
The 1999 Elite League speedway season was the 65th season of the top tier of speedway in the United Kingdom. It was the third known as the Elite League and was governed by the Speedway Control Board (SCB), in conjunction with the British Speedway Promoters' Association ( BSPA). Season summary In 2000, the league increased to ten teams with the Hull Vikings and the Peterborough Panthers moving up from the Premier League, and the Swindon Robins dropping down. The league operated on a standard format without play-offs. Despite coming up a division Peterbrough completely rebuilt their team for the season. They brought in three Australians Jason Crump from Oxford Cheetahs, Ryan Sullivan from Poole Pirates and Craig Watson from Newport Wasps, in addition to recalling Zdeněk Tesař. The British Newspaper Archive web site provides access to searchable digitized archives of British and Irish newspapers. It was launched in November 2011. History The British Library Newspapers section was based in Colindale in north London, until 2013, and is now divided between the St Pancras and Boston Spa sites. The library has an almost complete collection of British and Irish newspapers since 1840. This is partly because of the legal deposit legislation of 1869, which required newspapers to supply a copy of each edition of a newspaper to the library. London editions of national daily and Sunday newspapers are complete back to 1801. In total, the collection consists of 660,000 bound volumes and 370,000 reels of microfilm containing tens of millions of newspapers with 52,000 titles on 45 km of shelves. The 1997 Premier League speedway season was the second division of speedway in the United Kingdom and governed by the Speedway Control Board (SCB), in conjunction with the British Speedway Promoters' Association (BSPA). Restructure A restructure of British speedway took place, with the Premier League becoming the second division and a new Elite League becoming the top division. During the two previous seasons (1995 and 1996) there had been only one division of British speedway also called the Premier League, this confused matters because the Premier League was now only a second tier competition. Skegness Braves were a shortlived British motorcycle speedway team who operated at Skegness Stadium, in Orby, Skegness, Lincolnshire between 1997 and 1998.
