Brett Spinks
Brett Spinks (born 7 November 1973) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the West Coast Eagles and Geelong in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the 1990s. Spinks, who spent an entire season with South Fremantle after being drafted, made his AFL debut in 1994. He played 14 games in the home and away season as well as a qualifying final. For his performance against Fitzroy early in the season, which included 10 marks, he received a 1994 AFL Rising Star nomination. A heavily built key forward, he could only manage a further six games in his next three seasons but topped Perth's goal-kicking in 1997. At the end of the 1997 season he was traded to Geelong for Pick 13, which West Coast used to select Callum Chambers. South Fremantle Football Club
South Fremantle Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in Fremantle, Western Australia. The club plays in the Western Australian Football League (WAFL) and the WAFL Women's (WAFLW), commonly going by the nickname the ''Bulldogs''. Since its founding, the club has won 14 WAFL premierships, the most recent of them in 2020. Callum Chambers
Callum Chambers (born 19 November 1979) is an Australian rules footballer who has played in the Australian Football League. He was recruited as the number 13 draft pick in the 1997 AFL Draft from Lucknow, Victoria. Callum made his debut for the West Coast Eagles in Round 10, 2000 against Hawthorn. He was a very skilled and essential player for the club while they were struggling at the bottom of the ladder during the 2001–02 seasons. However, as the Eagles' midfield was flooded with new talent, he struggled to make an impact and be selected for games on a consistent basis. During this period, he played many games in the WAFL; initially for West Coast's WAFL- affiliate, East Perth (2000–01); and then (after that affiliation ended) with West Perth (2002–04). 1997 AFL Season
The 1997 AFL season was the 101st season of the Australian Football League (AFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Australia, which was known as the Victorian Football League until 1989. The season ran from 27 March until 27 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top eight clubs. Before the season, the Port Adelaide Football Club (SANFL) was admitted to the league, increasing the South Australian membership to two clubs. Foundation club Fitzroy, which had gone into administration in 1996, merged with the Brisbane Bears to form a new Queensland-based club known as the Brisbane Lions. The Footscray Football Club changed its name to the Western Bulldogs. With these changes, the league's size remained at sixteen clubs.
