Brendan Ryan (poet)
Brendan Ryan (born 4 December 1963) is a present-day Australian poet. ''AustLit: The Australian Literature Resource'', 21 May 2014 Much of his work concerns rural life. Life and work Ryan grew up on a dairy farm at . He now lives in Geelong, Victoria, where he teaches English at a secondary college. Ryan's poetry, reviews and essays have appeared in journals and newspapers, including ''The Best Australian Poems'' series (Black Inc). In 2007, he was awarded the Longlines Residency at Varuna. Panmure, Victoria
Panmure is a small town in the south west of Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia. At the Census in Australia#2006, 2006 census, Panmure and the surrounding area had a population of 421. Situated on the Princes Highway, the town is half way between Terang, Victoria, Terang and Warrnambool, Victoria, Warrnambool. The township was established in the 1850s. Timbercutters came to the area to harvest the River Red gum, stringybark and Eucalyptus obliqua, messmate trees, which were transported by Ox, bullock teams to nearby sawmills. The clearing of the native forest and relatively high rainfall gave rise to a thriving dairy industry, which persists today. Panmure Post Office opened on 1 January 1867. At its peak in the late nineteenth Century, Panmure consisted of a police station and courthouse, two sawmills, a blacksmith, a butcher, three churches, a pub, two stores, a bakery, and a school. ''Australian Book Review'' is an Australian arts and literary review. Created in 1961, ''ABR'' is an independent non-profit organisation that publishes articles, reviews, commentaries, essays, and new writing. The aims of the magazine are 'to foster high critical standards, to provide an outlet for fine new writing, and to contribute to the preservation of literary values and a full appreciation of Australia's literary heritage'. History and profile ''Australian Book Review'' was established by Max Harris and Rosemary Wighton as a monthly journal in Adelaide, Australia, in 1961. In 1971 production was reduced to quarterly releases, and lapsed completely in 1974. In 1978 the journal was revived by the National Book Council and, moving to Melbourne, began producing ten issues per year. ABR published the 400th issue of the second series in April 2018. Don Watson
Don Watson (born 1949) is an Australian author, screenwriter, former political adviser, and speechwriter. Early life Watson was born in 1949 at Warragul in the Gippsland region of Victoria, and grew up on a farm in nearby Korumburra. Academia and early career Watson studied for his undergraduate degree at La Trobe University and latterly completed PhD at Monash University before spending ten years working as an academic historian. He wrote three books on Australian history before turning his hand to TV and the stage. For several years he combined writing political satire for the actor Max Gillies with political speeches for the then Premier of Victoria, John Cain. In 1992, he became Prime Minister of Australia Paul Keating's speech-writer and adviser.
