Brenda Kamino
Brenda Kamino is a Canadian actress, teacher, writer, director and painter. She is best known for over forty years of theatre work, numerous screen roles, and for playing Dot Yasuda in the TV series ''Carter''. Early life Brenda Michiko Kamino was born in Toronto, Ontario. She started acting in a high school production of ''Antigone'', and performed at McMaster University with Martin Short, Eugene Levy and Dave Thomas in ''Frankenstein, A Rock Musical'' written by Thomas and his brother Ian Thomas. Career Kamino's first professional appearances were in 1977, as an extra in the CBC film '' Bethune'', and in the Toronto Open Circle Theatre's production of ''The Primary English Class'', by Israel Horovitz. Shaw Festival
The Shaw Festival is a not-for-profit theatre festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada. It is the second largest repertory theatre company in North America. The Shaw Festival was founded in 1962. Originally, it only featured productions written by George Bernard Shaw, but changes were later implemented by Christopher Newton and Jackie Maxwell that widened the theatre's scope. ''Fred Penner's Place'' is a Canadian children's musical television series that aired on CBC Television from 1985 to 1997. It stars Fred Penner as a fictionalized version of himself, as well as an array of puppets, musical numbers, and occasional guest stars. Internationally, it aired on Nickelodeon in the United States beginning in 1989, and later on Odyssey Network. ''Train 48'' was based on the format of an Australian television program called '' Going Home''. History The show was broadcast daily, and recorded the same day. It took place in a railway car of a GO Train on Lakeshore West line returning from Toronto to the suburb of Burlington, Ontario, and followed the lives of 12 daily commuters through their interactions. Although major plot lines were written in advance, much of the dialogue was improvised by the actors. Jon Kaplan (theatre Critic)
Jon Kaplan (1947–2017) was a Canadian theatre critic. He was the senior theatre writer at ''NOW Magazine''. Early life and education Kaplan grew up in Florida. He graduated from Brandeis University in 1969 with a degree in English before moving to Canada. He later received a master's degree in English from York University. His thesis was on Elizabethan and Jacobean theatre. Career Kaplan began his career as a theatre critic in Toronto in the 1970s writing reviews for ''The Body Politic''. A few years later, he began working for ''NOW Magazine''. Kaplan would go on to become ''NOW'''s senior theatre writer and to work for the magazine for 35 years. He wrote his last review for ''NOW'' two weeks before his death in 2017. Awards and nominations Kaplan has received both the Harold Award and the Brenda Donohue Award.
