Brenda Banks (animator)
Brenda Lee Banks (July 19, 1948 – December 30, 2020) was an American animator, who was one of the first African American women to work as a professional animator. History Early life and education Banks was born in Los Angeles on July 19, 1948. She graduated from Fremont High School in 1967 and then went on to attend the California Institute of the Arts. She continued her education up through 1977 even while being involved in concurrent animation work projects. Career The earliest known works that Banks was involved in include those starring Clerow Wilson in the early 1970s and the 1973 animated television special '' B.C.: The First Thanksgiving''. According to Ralph Bakshi, Banks arrived at his studio in 1973 asking for a job, despite telling him that she had no background in animation. Brenda Banks
Brenda S. Banks (November 11, 1949 – July 25, 2016) was an American archivist known for her work in preserving the history of Georgia as board chair for the Georgia Archives Institute. Her work with the Georgia Archives and her innovations in education and training programs made her a leading figure in American intellectual life. Career Georgia State Archives Banks was a fixture in the Archival, Curatorial and Library Sciences field in Georgia for nearly 40 years, and dedicated herself to identifying, selecting, preserving, and making accessible the records that constitute the state's recorded history. Her career began shortly after earning a master's degree in Library Science from Atlanta University in 1972, when she joined the Georgia Department of Archives and History as Assistant Archivist. The Big Cartoon Database
The Big Cartoon DataBase (or BCDB for short) is an online database of information about animated cartoons, animated feature films, animated television shows, and cartoon shorts. The BCDB project began in 1997 as a list of Disney animated features on creator Dave Koch's local computer. In response to increasing interest in the material, the database went online in 1998 as a searchable resource dedicated to compiling information about cartoons, including production details such as voice actors, producers, and directors, as well as plot summaries and user reviews of cartoons. In 2003, BCDB became a 501(c) non-profit corporation. On June 24, 2009, it was announced by creator Dave Koch on his BCDB forums that the site had 100,000 titles. Nancy Beiman is a director, character designer, teacher, and animator. She attended the Character Animation program at CalArts. Career Animation In 1986, Beiman cofounded Caged Beagle Productions with business partner Dean Yeagle. She then moved to Berlin, Germany where she directed and animated for Film Productions. In 1989, she was a supervising animator at Steven Spielberg's Amblin' studio in London animating Miss Kitty in the feature film '' An American Tail: Fievel Goes West''. Beiman animated Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Winnie the Pooh for many Disney projects beginning in 1982. Women In Animation
Women in Animation (WIA) is a non-profit organization with the purpose of furthering, promoting, and supporting female animators in the art, science and business of animation. WIA helps young female artists to find a place in the business world. WIA has chapters in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York City, Dublin, Pune, and Toronto. WIA states that the lack of an equal number of women and men in the animation profession is because "there has been very little work to intentionally change the status quo." In order to help women assess the animation profession, WIA has created a mentorship program, a voice over group, a scholarship, talks, and events.
