Bremia Lactucae
''Bremia lactucae'' is a plant pathogen. This microorganism causes a disease of lettuce (''Lactuca sativa'') denominated as downy mildew. Some other strains can be found on 36 genera of Asteraceae including ''Senecio'' and ''Sonchus''. Experiments using sporangia from hosts do not infect lettuce and it is concluded that the fungus exists as a quantity of host-specific strains (''formae speciales''). Wild species, such as ''Lactuca serriola'', or varieties of ''Lactuca'' can hold strains that infect lettuce, but these pathogens are not sufficiently common to seriously infect the plant. The severity of damage caused by ''Bremia'' can vary depending on environmental conditions. High humidity and cool temperatures are optimal for infection and spread of the disease. Oomycota forms a distinct phylogenetic lineage of fungus-like eukaryotic microorganisms, called oomycetes (). They are filamentous and heterotrophic, and can reproduce both sexually and asexually. Peronosporaceae
Peronosporaceae are a family of water moulds that contains 21 genera, comprising more than 600 species. Most of them are called downy mildews. Peronosporaceae are obligate biotrophic plant pathogens. They parasitise their host plants as an intercellular mycelium using haustoria to penetrate the host cells. The downy mildews reproduce asexually by forming sporangia on distinctive white sporangiophores usually formed on the lower surface of infected leaves. These constitute the "downy mildew". The sporangia are wind-dispersed to the surface of other leaves. According to the genus concerned, the sporangia may then germinate by forming zoospores, thus resembling ''Phytophthora'', or by germ-tube. Johann Jacob Bremi-Wolf (25 May 1791, Dübendorf – 27 February 1857, Zürich) was a Swiss entomologist and ''Kunsthandwerker'' (artist wood turner) in Zürich.Guyet, E. In biological taxonomy, circumscription is the content of a taxon, that is, the delimitation of which subordinate taxa are parts of that taxon. If we determine that species X, Y, and Z belong in Genus A, and species T, U, V, and W belong in Genus B, those are our circumscriptions of those two genera. Eduard August von Regel (sometimes Edward von Regel or Edward de Regel or Édouard von Regel), Russian: Эдуард Август Фон Регель; (born 13 August 1815 in Gotha; died 15 April 1892 in St. Petersburg) was a German horticulturalist and botanist. He ended his career serving as the Director of the Russian Imperial Botanical Garden of St. Petersburg.
