Scot Breithaupt
Scot Alexander Breithaupt (July 14, 1957 – July 5, 2015) was an entrepreneur, "Old School" professional motorcycle MX and bicycle motocross (BMX) racer and a founding father of BMX in 1970 whose prime competitive years were from 1970 to 1984. Many consider him, in some ways, a founder of "Old School BMX"—an era from roughly 1969 to 1987 or 1988, from its very beginnings to just after its first major slump in popularity from 1985 to 1988. Racing started to rise in participation again around 1988–89 and is considered the start of ''Mid School BMX'', roughly 1988–2000. He was born in Long Beach, California. Louis Breithaupt (tanner)
Philip Ludwig "Louis" Breithaupt (8 November 1827 – 3 July 1880) was a German-born tanner and politician in Ontario, Canada. He served as mayor of Berlin (today known as Kitchener) from 1879 to 1880. Biography The son of Liborius Breithaupt, a tanner, and Catherine Goetze, he was born in Allendorf, Kurhessen, which today is a part of Germany. He received an ordinary education in Germany, and there he was partially trained as a tanner by his father, Liborius, who was the fourth generation of tanners in the Breithaupt family. Liborius relocated his family Buffalo, New York in November 1843, bringing Louis with him. Liborius, with Louis assisting him, opened a small tannery in Buffalo located on Seneca Street, which mostly processed sheepskins. Don Breithaupt (born April 8, 1961) is a Canadian pianist, singer/songwriter, composer, arranger, producer and author. He received his musical education at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he studied Jazz Composition and Arranging, and his literary education at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, receiving a B.A. (Honours) in English and Film Studies. Louis Jacob Breithaupt (3March 18556March 1939) was an Ontario manufacturer and politician. He represented Waterloo North in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1899 to 1902 as a Liberal member. Biography Louis Jacob Breithaupt was born on 3 March 1855 in Buffalo, New York, the son of Catharine Hailer and Philip Ludwig "Louis" Breithaupt. Louis Jacob moved to Berlin, Canada West ( later renamed Kitchener) with his family in 1857 and was mayor of Berlin himself from 1888 to 1889. In 1881, he married Emma Alvarene Devitt, the daughter of Benjamin Devitt, then mayor of Waterloo, Ontario. Breithaupt was manager of the Breithaupt Leather Company, president of the Berlin Gas Company and was also associated with other manufacturing businesses. Louis Orville Breithaupt
Louis Orville Breithaupt (October 28, 1890 – December 12, 1960) served as the 18th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, Canada, from 1952 to 1957. Life and career Born in Berlin (later Kitchener), Ontario, the son of Emma Alvarine (Devitt) and Louis Jacob Breithaupt, he was educated at the University of Toronto. He became head of his family's leather business, Breithaupt Leather Company, in Kitchener. He was a Kitchener alderman for four years, and in 1923 became the youngest mayor in the city's history. James Roos Breithaupt (September 7, 1934 – August 29, 2018) was a Canadian politician. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1967 to 1984 as a member of the Liberal Party. He won a total of five elections, and was the longest serving former Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Kitchener since Canadian Confederation in 1867. Johann Friedrich August Breithaupt (May 16, 1791 – September 22, 1873) was a German mineralogist and professor at Freiberg Mining Academy in Freiberg, Saxony. Biography He was born in Probstzella. He received his doctorate at the Universities of Jena and Marburg. He studied under Abraham Gottlob Werner at the Freiberg Mining Academy where he received an appointment in 1813 as teacher and lapidary, and became professor of mineralogy after the departure of Friedrich Mohs in 1826. He held that position until 1866. Research He is credited with the discovery of 47 valid mineral species. The mineral breithauptite was named in his honor. His work included important contributions to crystallography and the physical and chemical properties of minerals.
