Breast Cancer Network Australia
Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) is a not-for-profit organisation that supports Australians affected by breast cancer. BCNA aims to ensure that Australians affected by breast cancer receive support, information, treatment and care appropriate to their needs. BCNA is the peak national organisation for Australians affected by breast cancer, and consists of a network of more than 120,000 individual members and 300 Member Groups. History In 1998, Lyn Swinburne envisaged an organisation that would positively influence the way breast cancer was discussed in the community. Her goal was for people to talk openly about the disease and acknowledge its personal impact. Following a public meeting in every state and territory, over 300 women came together to discuss issues affecting women with breast cancer. Lyn Swinburne
Lyn Mary Swinburne (born 6 June 1952) is an Australian women's advocate, inspirational speaker and founder of Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA). Career Swinburne was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993 and underwent surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and hormone therapy. After that time, and as a result of her experiences, she became a committed advocate on behalf of women with breast cancer and their families. In 1996, Swinburne began her work to establish Breast Cancer Network Australia, which was then formally launched in October 1998. BCNA is now the peak national breast cancer ‘consumer' organisation representing nearly 300 member groups and more than 110,000 individuals in all Australian states and territories. Raelene Boyle
Raelene Ann Boyle (born 24 June 1951) is an Australian retired athlete, who represented Australia at three Olympic Games as a sprinter, winning three silver medals, and was named one of 100 National Living Treasures by the National Trust of Australia in 1998. Boyle was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1996 and subsequently became a board member of Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA). In 2017, she was named a Legend in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame. Shane Barry Crawford (born 9 September 1974) is a former Australian rules football player, television media personality and author. Maxine Veronica Morand (born 30 January 1959) is an Australian academic, advocate for cancer patients, and former politician. Morand has a current academic appointment at Monash University where she is a professorial fellow in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine.
