Breaking At The Summer Olympics
The 2024 Summer Olympics will introduce the sport of breaking or breakdancing to the Summer Olympic program for the first time. There will be two medal events, one each for men and women, with 16 "b-boys" and "b-girls" competing. Breaking previously featured at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics. 2024 Summer Olympics
The 2024 Summer Olympics (french: Jeux olympiques d'été de 2024), officially the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad (french: Jeux de la XXXIIIe Olympiade, links=no) and also known as Paris 2024, is an upcoming international multi-sport event that is scheduled to take place from 26 July to 11 August 2024 with Paris as its main host city and 16 cities spread across Metropolitan France and one in the French overseas territory of Tahiti as subsites. Paris was awarded the Games at the 131st IOC Session in Lima, Peru, on 13 September 2017. Breakdancing
Breakdancing, also called breaking or b-boying/b-girling, is an athletic style of street dance originating from the African American and Puerto Rican communities in the United States. While diverse in the amount of variation available in the dance, breakdancing mainly consists of four kinds of movement: toprock, downrock, power moves and freezes. Breakdancing is typically set to songs containing drum breaks, especially in hip-hop, funk, soul music and breakbeat music, although modern trends allow for much wider varieties of music along certain ranges of tempo and beat patterns. The modern dance elements of breakdancing originated among the poor youth of New York during the early 1970s, where it was introduced as breaking. It is closely attributed to the birth of hip-hop, as DJs developed rhythmic breaks for dancers. Dancesport At The 2018 Summer Youth Olympics
Dancesport at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics was held from 7 to 11 October. The competition took place at Puerto Madero in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This marked the debut of the sport at the Youth Olympics. The discipline of street dance (breakdancing) was held at the games. Qualification Each National Olympic Committee (NOC) can enter a maximum of 2 competitors, 1 per each gender. As hosts, Argentina is given 2 quotas, 1 per each gender provided that they participate at the World Youth Breaking Championships. Four quotas, two per gender were initially to be decided by the tripartite committee, however, none were selected and the spots were reallocated to the 2018 World Youth Championship. The remaining places were decided at the 2018 World Youth Breaking Championship, with each continent guaranteed a spot at the games provided that they competed. Thomas Bach
Thomas Bach (born 29 December 1953) is a German lawyer, former Olympic foil fencer and Olympic gold medalist, serving as the ninth and current president of the International Olympic Committee since 10 September 2013. He is also a former member of the German Olympic Sports Confederation executive board. Bach is the first ever Olympic champion to be elected President of the IOC. Early life and education Thomas Bach was born in 1953 in Würzburg, West Germany. He grew up in Tauberbischofsheim, where he lived with his parents until 1977. Bach earned a doctor of law ( Dr. iur. utr.) degree in 1983 from the University of Würzburg. He speaks fluent French, English, Spanish and German. Fencing career Bach is a former foil fencer who competed for West Germany.
