Nordegg
Nordegg is a hamlet in west-central Alberta, Canada within Clearwater County. It is located in the North Saskatchewan River valley in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, just east of the intersection of the David Thompson Highway and the Highway 734 spur of the Bighorn Highway (the Forestry Trunk Road). A former coal mining town, it was named after Martin Nordegg and the name probably means "North Corner" in a German dialect. The railway station name at the locality was called ''Brazeau'' rather than ''Nordegg'' at certain points in its history, but the local post office has always been named ''Nordegg''. Brazeau County is a municipal district in central Alberta, Canada. It is located in Census Division 11. The municipal district was incorporated on July 1, 1988 from ''Improvement District No. 222''. On October 1, 2002, the name was changed from ''Municipal District of Brazeau No. 77'' to ''Brazeau County''. It is named for the Brazeau River, in turn named for Joseph Brazeau, a linguist associated with the Palliser Expedition. The Brazeau River is a river in western Alberta, Canada. It is a major tributary of the North Saskatchewan River. The river was named for Joseph Brazeau, a linguist associated with the Palliser Expedition. Course The river originates in the heights of the Canadian Rockies from Brazeau Lake (which is fed by creeks that flow from Coronet Glacier and the Queen Elizabeth Ranges) and flows east through the Rocky Mountains foothills until it merges into the North Saskatchewan River between Drayton Valley and Rocky Mountain House at Brazeau Forks. Brazeau Reservoir is a large man made reservoir in Alberta, Canada. It is located in Brazeau County of central Alberta, south-west of Drayton Valley. It was developed along the Brazeau River, at the confluence with Elk River, in the hydrographic basin of the North Saskatchewan River. Energy production The dam and hydroelectric plant are managed by TransAlta. The plant has an electricity generating capacity of 355 megawatts (MW). The Brazeau Plant is the largest hydroelectric plant owned by TransAlta. The hydrology of the Brazeau area allows it to produce an annual average of 397,000 megawatt hours (MW⋅h) of electric energy. Mount Brazeau is a mountain in Alberta, Canada. The mountain is located in the upper Coronet Creek Valley of Jasper National Park, and stands west of the Coronet Glacier and south of Maligne Lake. Brazeau (; ) is an unincorporated community in southeastern Perry County, Missouri, United States. Etymology The community is named after the nearby Brazeau Creek, which in turn was named for Joseph Brazeau (also spelled Obrazo), a merchant from St. Louis, Missouri, in 1791–1799, or by a member of his family. History Some of the earliest Americans to put down roots in Perry County were English and Scots-Irish Presbyterian settlers from Rowan, Iredell, Cabarrus, and Mecklenburg counties in North Carolina who settled Brazeau in 1817. There, they opened land in the Brazeau Creek drainage basin. In 1804, Brazeau was estimated to have had 88 inhabitants. The Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Brazeau was established on September 2, 1819, and a log church was erected. Brazeau is one of the eight townships located in Perry County, Missouri, in the United States of America. Etymology Brazeau Township is named after Brazeau Creek, which in turn was named for Joseph Brazeau (also spelled Obrazo) a merchant from St. Louis, Missouri in the years 1791–1799, or a member of his family. History The earliest settlers to the area of present-day Brazeau Township were French traders and Shawnee Indians who had been granted the right to settle along Apple creek as a buffer against other tribes to the south. The Spanish authorities also granted Catholic American settlers who arrived from Maryland by way of Kentucky the right to settle in the area, establishing a community called the Fenwick Settlement. The Brazeau Bottom is an alluvial floodplain, also called a 'flat', extending along the Mississippi River in Perry County, Missouri. The Brazeau Bottom lies below the American and Bois Brule bottoms along the Mississippi River. The flat bottomland on the western bank of the Mississippi River is broken by a series of rocky bluffs, including the Red Rock Landing Conservation Area and the Seventy-Six Conservation Area, which stretch for about 10 miles. Jim Brazeau is a retired American soccer goalkeeper. He played one season in the American Professional Soccer League and five in the Continental Indoor Soccer League. He earned the first shutout in CISL history on August 25, 1993. Playing Brazeau attended Seattle Preparatory School. He then began his college career as a defender with Pacific University in 1985. After two seasons, he transferred to Oregon State University in 1989. When he arrived, the Beavers’ goalkeeper had just been declared academically ineligible and Brazeau was converted from defender to goalkeeper.
