Brantwood is an unincorporated community in southern Price County, Wisconsin, United States located within the town of Knox. It lies along United States Highway 8 and on the Wisconsin Central Railroad, between Prentice on the west and Tomahawk on the east. The rural community was settled in the late 1890s as a logging community. History Francis Palms was the first to purchase acreage in the area and later sold the land to William and Samuel Knox. United States Highway 8
U.S. Highway 8 (US 8) is a United States Numbered Highway that runs primarily east–west for , mostly within the state of Wisconsin. It connects Interstate 35 (I-35) in Forest Lake, Minnesota, to US 2 at Norway in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan near the border with Wisconsin. Except for the short freeway segment near Forest Lake, and sections near the St. Croix River bridge and Rhinelander, Wisconsin, it is mostly an undivided surface road. As a state highway in the three states, US 8 is maintained by the Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan departments of transportation (MnDOT, WisDOT, and MDOT, respectively). Tomahawk, Wisconsin
Tomahawk is a city in Lincoln County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 3,346 at the 2010 census. The city is located to the northeast of the Town of Tomahawk and is not contiguous with it. History Before 1837, the land where Tomahawk is now situated belonged to the Ojibwe, who traded actively with fur traders such as the American Fur Company and the Northwest Company. History Prentice began as a lumber town, when Alexander Prentice of Portage, Wisconsin, Portage formed the Jump River Lumber Company in 1882.
