Brant Ust
Brant Steven Ust (born July 17, 1978) is a Belgian former professional baseball player who played internationally for both the United States national baseball team and the Great Britain national baseball team. College Career Ust was born in Brussels, Belgium. He attended Eastlake High School in Sammamish, Washington and then the University of Notre Dame, with whom he won the Big East Conference Player of the Year in 1998. The previous year, he was the conference's Rookie of the Year. In 1997, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Professional Career Ust played in the minor leagues from 1999 to 2007, after being taken by the Detroit Tigers in the sixth round of the 1999 Major League Baseball Draft. He reached as high as Triple-A in three seasons, but never played in the major leagues. Overall, he batted .242 with 69 home runs in 852 games. 1998 Baseball World Cup
The 1998 Baseball World Cup (BWC) was the 33rd international Men's amateur baseball tournament. The tournament was sanctioned by the International Baseball Federation, which titled it the Amateur World Series from the 1938 tournament through the 1986 AWS. The tournament was held, for the third time, in Italy, from July 21 to August 2. The final was a repeat of the previous BWC tournament, with Cuba again defeating South Korea in the final, winning its 22nd title. There were 16 participating countries, split into two groups, with the first four of each group qualifying for the finals. This was the first edition of the tournament that allowed professional players to take part in the competition. The next six competitions were also held as the BWC tournament, which was replaced in 2015 by the quadrennial WBSC Premier12. The Italian Baseball League (IBL; Italian: ') is a professional baseball league that is governed by FIBS (Italian Baseball & Softball Federation), which has its headquarters in Rome. The IBL is a wood bat league in which both composite and aluminum bats are prohibited; the official ball of the IBL is the '' Wilson 1010 Italy''. Until 2010, the IBL featured a league format that demoted the last place finisher to the minor leagues (Series A2), while the Series A2 champion would be promoted into the IBL. However, in late 2009 FIBS approved the decision to eliminate the promotion and relegation system starting with the 2010 season and thus now applies a fixed-team franchise format similar to that found in Major League Baseball. The Grosseto Baseball Club is a baseball franchise based in the city of Grosseto, Tuscany in Italy, which was founded in 1952. History Grosseto BBC was previously a franchise in Italy's top professional competition, the Italian Baseball League. Grosseto was represented in the IBL's top league, Series A, by several teams with different nicknames over a span of nine seasons from 1999 to 2008. Teams from Grosseto won Series A titles in 1986, 1989, 2004, and 2007. The club also won Gold at the 2005 European Cup tournament. The club was relegated to Series C after the 2011 season due to financial troubles. As a result, the franchise shut down after 60 years. Triple-A (officially Class AAA) has been the highest level of play in Minor League Baseball in the United States since 1946. Currently, two sports league, leagues operate at the Triple-A level, the International League (IL) and the Pacific Coast League (PCL). There are 30 teams, one per each Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise, with 20 in the IL and 10 in the PCL.
