Brandon Potter (politician)
Brandon Potter (born 6 August 1984) is an American politician who is state representative in the Rhode Island House of Representatives for the 16th district. In the 2020 election, Potter primaried incumbent representative Christopher Millea, a close ally of speaker Nicholas Mattiello, with the support of the Working Families Party, winning the Democratic nomination. After being unable to contact Millea, Potter was motivated to run for office when his girlfriend was removed from a kidney transplant waiting list, and the Herb Chambers car dealership he was working at was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Potter proceeded to defeat Republican Maryann Lancia in the general election by a margin of 585 votes. He was endorsed by Bernie Sanders. Following the news that state Rep. Rhode Island House Of Representatives
The Rhode Island House of Representatives is the lower house of the Rhode Island General Assembly, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Rhode Island, the upper house being the Rhode Island Senate. It is composed of 75 members, elected to two year terms from 75 districts of equal population. The Rhode Island General Assembly does not have term limits. Nicholas A. Mattiello (born 1963) is an American politician and Democratic former member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives, who represented the 15th District from 2007 to 2021. He served as the Speaker of the Rhode Island House of Representatives from March 25, 2014 to 2021. In 2020, he was defeated in an upset by Republican Barbara Ann Fenton-Fung, the wife of Cranston mayor Allan Fung. Political positions Mattiello has been described as an "old-guard conservative." In 2011, he voted for Rhode Island's voter ID law. Despite his generally conservative profile, he voted for marriage equality in 2013. The Working Families Party (WFP) is a minor political party in the United States, founded in New York in 1998. K. Joseph Shekarchi (born May 17, 1962) is an American politician currently serving as the Speaker of the Rhode Island House of Representatives. A Democrat, he has represented District 23 in Warwick since January 1, 2013. He was chairman of the House Labor Committee until his Democratic colleagues elected him as the House majority leader in November 2016.
