Brandon Matera
Brandon Matera (born 11 March 1992) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Gold Coast Football Club (2011–2017) and the Fremantle Football Club (2018–2020) in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was recruited as one of twelve 17-year-olds made available to Gold Coast under the AFL's draft concessions. Matera is the son of former Fitzroy and West Coast player Wally Matera and the nephew of former West Coast footballers Phil and Peter Matera. He is of Italian and Indigenous Australian (Noongar) heritage. Junior career Matera came up through the junior system of the South Fremantle Football Club and represented Western Australia at under-16 and under-18 levels. South Fremantle Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in Fremantle, Western Australia. The club plays in the Western Australian Football League (WAFL) and the WAFL Women's (WAFLW), commonly going by the nickname the ''Bulldogs''. Since its founding, the club has won 14 WAFL premierships, the most recent of them in 2020. 2009 AFL National Under 18 Championships
The 2009 AFL Under-18 Championships was the 2009 series of the AFL Under 18 Championships, a state and territory-based Australian rules football competition which showcases the best junior footballers in Australia, primarily with the aim for them to be drafted into the Australian Football League. This year's competition was played with just one division compared to two from previous years. 2020 AFL Season
The 2020 AFL season was the 124th season of the Australian Football League (AFL), the highest level senior men's Australian rules football competition in Australia, which was known as the Victorian Football League until 1989. The season featured eighteen clubs. Played during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, the season commenced on 19 March and was suspended four days later; it resumed on 11 June and ran until 24 October. A shortened season was played, comprising a 17-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top eight clubs; all matches were shortened to 80% of their usual length.
