Branca Eva de Gonta Syder Ribeiro Colaço (July 8, 1880 — March 22, 1945), better known as Branca de Gonta Colaço, was a Portuguese writer, scholar and linguist. She was the daughter of British Charlotte Ann Syder and Portuguese politician and writer Tomás Ribeiro and mother of the sculptor, Ana de Gonta Colaço. Biography Displaying an early talent for revealing the letters, Branca de Gonta Colaço started out as a poet, and as a collaborator in literary journals, actively contributing to a large number of newspapers and magazines. Tomás Ribeiro (writer)
Tomás António Ribeiro Ferreira (1 July 1831 – 6 February 1901), better known as Tomás Ribeiro or Thomaz Ribeiro, was a Portuguese politician, journalist, poet and ''Ultra-Romanticism, Ultra-Romantic'' writer. He was born in Parada de Gonta, Viseu. After graduating in law at the University of Coimbra, he practised law briefly before turning to a political career. A prominent member of the ''Partido Regenerador'', he was at various times Mayor of Viseu, Deputy, Peer of the Realm, Minister of Maritime Affairs, Minister of Public Works and Civil Governor of the districts of Braga and Porto. He was also secretary general of the government of Portuguese India, and ambassador of Portugal in Brazil. Elected a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences, he was president of the Department of Letters. He died in Lisbon and was buried in the Cemitério dos Prazeres. Ana de Gonta Colaço (19031954) was a Portuguese sculptor, artist and feminist. Early life Ana Raymunda de Gonta Colaço was born on 7 November 1903 in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon. She was the daughter of the poet Branca de Gonta Colaço and the artist Jorge Colaço. She was known as Aninhas, and was then the couple's third daughter, being born just a year after the still birth of a sister. Her family was well-connected to the intellectual activity of the time in Portugal, and her parents were prominent figures in Portuguese society. Ana was the younger sister of the lawyer, writer and playwright Tomás Ribeiro Colaço. On her father's side she was a cousin of the pianist and composer Alexandre Rey Colaço, of the actress and stage director Amélia Rey Colaço and of the painter and illustrator Alice Rey Colaço, as well as granddaughter on the maternal side of the politician and writer Tomás Ribeiro (writer), Tomás Ribeiro.
